Introduction:

What did we celebrate yesterday?

On Valentines Day we spend a lot of time talking about love, friendship, and hearts.

Did you know the Bible talks a lot about your heart? The Bible mentions our hearts over 700 times. Today I brought 3 hearts with me to help us learn some things the Bible says about our hearts.

Heart #1 (open the heart and find dirt in it)

Bible verse: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick – who can understand it. Jeremiah 17:9

This is the kind of heart that belongs to a really mean person. A person who likes to make fun of people. This type of person might cheat on a test or even steal someone’s money. This person is dirty on the inside. This is the type of person you don’t want to be around and should not hang around or call a friend.

Heart #2 (open the heart and find nothing in it)

Bible Verse: This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Matthew 15:8

This is the kind of person who goes to church and kidz Club but they have forgotten something very important. Their heart is empty. They do not have Jesus living on the inside. They are just trying to look good on the outside. They are just trying to please their mom, or dad, or pastor.

Heart #3 (have a cross in it)

Bible verse: 1 Corinthians 2:9 – No eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.

What is in this heart? . . . Jesus. When you decide to live for Jesus, then He lives in your heart. Your heart is no longer dirty. It is no longer empty. Your heart is full of God’s Love. It is full of JESUS!!!

Conclusion: when we celebrate Valentines Day beside thinking about the people we love, we should think about the most important thing – the greatest act of love ever – When Jesus died on the cross.

Does Jesus truly live in your heart? Is your heart full of God’s love? OR is it empty? Do you come to church just to please someone or because it is fun? Do you come because you love Jesus? Is your heart dirty like the first heart? Is your heart full of anger? Are you mean to everyone around you?

Today you need to decide to let Jesus live in your heart and fill your heart with His love.
