Today we are going to talk some about the Holy Spirit.

People Without God’s Spirit

Hold up regular balloon, not blown up

This balloon reminds me of people without The Holy Spirit inside of them. This balloon is floppy and flat. It is useless. This balloon is not pretty. We cannot have fun with it this way. It is not good for anything. When we do not have the Holy Spirit living inside of us as our helper we are useless. God cannot use us.

Blow up the balloon

Now I am filling this balloon with my own air. This reminds me of people that try to tell others how good they are. “I am such a good person. I am smart in school. I obey my parents. I go to church. This balloon is all puffed up. It is full of me – trying to make me look good, trying to succeed in life, trying to improve myself.

Lots of people live like this – trying to be in control and look good. This never works. As hard as we try, we can never live a life that honors and pleases God on our own. What we do with our life on our own never even compares to what God wants to do with our life.

Let go of the balloon

When we live on our own there comes a time that we lose control. Look what happens. We end up going in all directions. We might lose our jobs. Do badly in school. Face a crisis. All our own plans and ideas come crashing down. Then we are empty and useless again.

People With God’s Spirit

Hold up the helium balloon

The Bible teaches us that we are to be filled with God’s Spirit. When we decide to live for Jesus, the Holy Spirit-God’s Spirit moves into us. Think about it, GOD MOVES INTO US.

The helium inside this balloon reminds me of God’s Spirit that lives inside of us. The helium in this balloon has nothing to do with me. It is another power. God’s Spirit has nothing to do with me – IT IS GOD’S POWER.

The helium makes this balloon more beautiful and enjoyable – God’s Spirit makes me a more beautiful and enjoyable person.

The helium in this balloon gives it power – God Spirit gives me power to live for Him.

The helium in this balloon allows this balloon to do great things – fly high in the sky, carry notes, ride the winds. – God’s Spirit in me allows me to do great and mighty things for Him.

The helium in this balloon makes this balloon do things that are impossible for other balloons to do. God’s Spirit in me helps impossible things become possible for me. (Finish school, go to college, preach, travel as a missionary, move out of the projects, own a home, get married and raise a family God’s way)

Conclusion: When we decide to live for Jesus, God fills us with the Holy Spirit. GOD’S SPIRIT MOVES IN US. God’s supernatural power helps us to accomplish anything for Him. God doesn’t want us to live on our own and be like the floppy balloon. God wants to fill us with His SPIRIT AND POWER.
