Speaking In Tongues-Hotline To Heaven

Verse: For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays... Corinthians 14:14
Props:
2 cell phones - one in a briefcase near the front and the other hidden where a helper can make phone calls (or use the phone in the kitchen)
Instructions:
Discussion:
I. In a time of war, Christians must stay in close communication with headquarters.
A. We are in a war against the forces of darkness. Read Ephesians 6:10-12.
1. Our enemies are invisible, but they are not imaginary.
2. Our enemies lead people into sin, make their bodies sick, put them in fear and cause accidents.
B. In time of war, we must stay in close contact with our Leader, Jesus Christ.
1. Jesus is in Heaven, but He told us He would guide us and speak to us by the Holy Spirit.
2. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we have a way to stay in touch with Heaven all the time.
(At this point, your helper should make a phone call to the cell phone in your briefcase .Open the briefcase and pick up the phone. Talk as if you are speaking to Heaven in a military tone. You will pretend to receive information about the enemy’s plan to cause and accident. You request that angels be sent to eliminate the danger and then hang up.)
II. The Holy Spirit has given us a way to speak to God about things we don’t even know about. Read Romans 8:26
A. When a Spirit-filled Christian speaks in other tongues, he is talking to God.
I Corinthians14:2
1. He talks to God about “mysteries” or hidden things he does not understand.
2. Speaking in tongues bypasses the brain, so we are not supposed to understand what we are saying.
B. By speaking in other tongues we always pray according to Gods will, because the Holy Spirit is directing our words.
(Once again, remove the phone from your briefcase. Pretend to dial Heavens number. Tell the Lord that you know you are supposed to be praying for uncle Bob, but that you don’t know what to pray for. Demonstrate the operation of speaking in tongues in the phone.)
III. Our enemy does not want us to see this wonderful way of communication.
A. Many of Gods own precious people do not believe in speaking in other tongues by the help of the Holy Spirit.
1. This does not mean they are not saved.
2. They think that speaking in tongues passed away long ago.
3. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues is for every Christian in the Church (read Acts 2:38-39)
B. The devil tells us that speaking in tongues is not a real language.
1. Gods Word says that we speak with the languages of other men and even angels.
2. If you were to speak French, German, Chinese, or Russian without understanding it, it would sound the same to you as speaking with other tongues.
3. People speaking with other tongues have been recognized form speaking real languages since the Bible times.
C. The best time to speak in tongues is when we don’t feel spiritually strong.
1. Feelings do not matter when we speak in tongues.
2. Speaking in tongues builds up Christians.
Closing: Pray for children who want the gift of speaking in Tongues.
