Thankful Story
Instructions:
Before I read the following story I have to explain the instructions. I will pause after each line. If you think things are going well for Jerry, raise your hands, lean to the right and shout "Yeah!" IF you think things are going bad for Jerry, lower your hands, lean to the left and shout "Oh No!"

It was Jerry's birthday. His parents gave him the present he wanted most, a ride in a helicopter.

Fortunately, the helicopter flew very high, so Jerry could see for miles and miles.

Unfortunately, Jerry fell out.

Fortunately, the helicopter was carrying parachutes.

Unfortunately, Jerry wasn't wearing one.

Fortunately, there was a huge lake down below Jerry.

Unfortunately, Jerry couldn't swim.

Fortunately, Jerry missed the lake. He was falling toward a farm.

Unfortunately, the farm's land was made out of dirt, hard dirt.

Fortunately, there was a giant haystack on the farm.

Unfortunately, there was a pitchfork in the haystack.

Fortunately, Jerry missed the pitchfork also.

Unfortunately, Jerry missed the haystack as well.

Fortunately, Jerry fell into a flock of fluffy, chubby sheep.

Unfortunately, Jerry is allergic to wool.

Fortunately, Jerry didn't sneeze too much and he walked away from his fall.

Unfortunately, the sheep didn't.

Discussion:
How would you have felt if you were Jerry? How do you think Jerry would have felt if he had known everything would turn out right before he fell?

No matter what happens to us, and what situation we find ourselves in we need to have a thankful attitude towards God.

Bible Story:

Introduction:
-I want everyone to take a minute and think of a time when you thanked someone for something.
-Now I want you to tell the person beside you or in front of you or behind you about this time.

Story:
-Now I need 10 people to come up to the front.
-I am going to tell you about a time when Jesus did something for 10 people
-At the beginning of this story there were 10 people with leprosy.
-Who knows what leprosy is? A disease that eats through your skin at your body parts. Your fingers and toes fall off, and then your arms and legs.
-I want everyone to act like you have leprosy.
-These 10 lepers saw Jesus down the road and began yelling and begging Him to heal them. (Act it out)
-Jesus healed all of them, and told them to go and show themselves to the priest.
-A person with leprosy always had to show the priest he was well before he could return to a normal life.
-Only one of the ten fell down on their knees and thanked God for healing.

Discussion:
To me this story is kind of happy and sad. It is exciting that God healed 10 people all at once. He gave those 10 people their life back. It is sad that only one of them took the time to be thankful.

-How do you think Jesus felt when only one of the sick men came back to thank him?
-Why is it important to express our thanks to God?
