Introduction:
-Today we are going to talk some more about the second thing disciples must do:
A Disciple must have faith in God’s Promises.
-Who can name some of God’s Promises?
-God’s promises are like gifts to us.
-(Cut up His Promises from the “Promise Sheet” and put them in a gift bag. Have the kids take turns pulling a promise from the bag)
-What do you think it means to “have faith”?
-To rely and trust
-To believe that something will happen even before it happens

-In order for us to trust and rely on God’s promises we have to believe that God always keeps His promises.

Discussion
-This week when I was getting ready for the lesson. I was thinking about how much I liked to ride my bike when I was a kid.
-Where can you go on your bike?
-To the store
-To the park
-To school
-To a friend’s house
-Around the neighborhood

-What else can you do on a bike?
-We can carry heavy groceries on a bike
-We can give our friends a lift somewhere on a bike

Bikes are lots of fun and are great things to have. Bikes make really great gifts for kids.

I started thinking how a Bible is a great thing to have just like a bike is.

#1 Bikes are very helpful to a kid. The Bible is very helpful because it is an instruction book for our life. When we follow God’s Word, it keeps us from doing things that don’t please God.

#2 Just like bikes make our life easier. We can get places quicker. We don’t have to carry heavy groceries far. We can use our bike to get them home. If your friend wanted a lift somewhere could you imagine what it would be like to carry them to where they wanted? You don’t have to – they can hop on your bike and you can give them a lift that way. The Bible makes living for Jesus easier. The Bible explains exactly how we need to live and what Jesus expects out of us.

#3 Just like a bike carries us to where we want to go; God’s Word carries us through life, especially difficult times.

In the world there are lots of kids who have never ridden a bike because they are too poor or because it is hard to get a bike in their country. Imagine what your life would be like if you never had the chance to ride a bike. That would be sad wouldn’t it?

In the world there are lots of Christians who do not have Bible. In some countries it is against the law to have a Bible. People are put in jail for owning a Bible. It is very difficult in these countries for Christians to learn about God’s Word. In other countries people are very poor and cannot afford a Bible. It would be sad to never be able to read a Bible story, and it would be hard to live like a Christian without a Bible.

Bible Story
Introduction:
I am going to tell you about 2 times when God made a promise in the Bible and kept it. I need your help with the stories. When you hear the word because, you have to stand up and say as loud as you can “God always keeps His promises!” (Practice)

Zechariah and Elizabeth were good people who loved and served God. All their lives they wanted children. (Who does that sound like?) They grew old and had no children.

One day Zechariah was serving God in the temple (the church) when an angel appeared to him. Now this angel wasn’t a cute little baby with wings. It was a tall, huge guy. Zechariah was a little scared. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. Your prayers have been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will have a son and you should name him John.”

At first Zechariah doubted the angel, so the angel told him that since he doubted God’s promise that he would not be able to talk until the baby was born. Zechariah realized that he should have never doubted God BECAUSE “God always keeps his promises.”

When Zechariah went home everyone wondered why he couldn’t talk and what had taken him so long at the temple. He explained the best he could using his hands. Soon after that his wife was going to have a baby. Zechariah and Elizabeth knew their miracle baby was from God BECAUSE “God always keeps his promises.”

In another town far away, the angel Gabriel appeared to a woman named Mary. Mary was afraid of the big angel just like Zechariah was. Gabriel told Mary that she was going to have a child. The angel told Mary that her son was going to be God’s Son.

Mary wondered how she could have a baby because she wasn’t even married. The angel told her that nothing is impossible with God. He told her that her relative Elizabeth was going to have a baby too. Mary believed the angel BECAUSE “God always keeps his promises.”

Mary rushed to visit her relative Elizabeth right away. They were both so excited and they praised God BECAUSE “God always keeps his promises!”

Soon Elizabeth had her baby just like God said. Everyone celebrated. They asked Zechariah what the baby’s name would be. He wrote down John. Suddenly Zechariah could speak. The first words out of his mouth were praise to God BECAUSE “God always keeps His promises!”

Who knows the end of Mary’s story?

Conclusion: God always keeps his promises to us.
