Discussion:
Introduction
-For the past several weeks we have been talking about the fruit of the Spirit.
-When we decide to live for Jesus, we need to have the fruit of the spirit in our lives. That means we need to act in certain ways towards others.
-Who can remember the fruit of the sprit? (Pick a couple children to name them. Give them a treat)
Review Game:
*Before class tape the fruit of the spirit under chairs on each side of the room.
You need:
Fruit of the spirit for each side of the room
Clothesline
Clothespins
Tape
Instructions: At the front of the room have 2 volunteers from each team hold up a clothesline. Have 2 volunteers from each team volunteer to hang the words up on the clothesline. Give these volunteers clothespins. On “go” all the children have to check under their chair for a fruit of the spirit. The people at the front have to hang all nine fruit of the spirit in ALPHABETICAL order. The first team done, wins.
Gentleness
-Today we are going to talk about gentleness
-What do you think gentleness means?
-Gentleness means – to treat carefully
** while you are talking about what gentleness means you should be interrupted by 2 people.
Skit
2 people should interrupt teacher. One of them should be wearing a shirt that says “Christian”. They should be having an argument. The “Christian should be pushing the other kid around.
The teacher should interrupt the fight.
Teacher to children: What is wrong with this situation? (Allow the kids to respond)
Teacher: ________________ calls themselves a Christian but I do not see the fruit of the spirit in their behavior. Today we are learning about gentleness. What does gentleness mean boys and girls? Are ______________________and _______________________ being gentle towards each other. (The boys in the fight can interrupt-but you don’t understand etc . .)
When we decide to live for Jesus we need to decide to live different from everyone else. One thing we need to do is treat people carefully.
Bible Verse: Let your gentleness be evident to all. Philippians 4:5
-Go over the verse anyway you want.
End in prayer – challenge the boys and girls to treat other people carefully. Have them think of someone that they have a hard time treating carefully and pray that God will help them with this in the next week.
