Discussion:
Introduction - Object Lesson:
-Can anyone tell me what this is? (Hold up a can of peaches)
-How do you know it is a can of peaches?
-What if I took the label off?
-Now what is in here?
-Now what if I put a different label on this can? (put a different label on the can)
-What is in here?
-It can’t be. The label on the can says ____________________. There must be ________________ in this can.
-So, you are telling me that no matter what it says on the outside-the inside of this can stays the same?
-So, no matter what someone looks like on the outside – the inside is what is important?
-In Galatians 5:22-23 God gave us a list of nine things we need to have on the inside of us.
-It doesn’t matter what we look like on the outside. God is only concerned that we have these nine things on the inside of us.
Review the Fruit of the Spirit
-If we really mean it when we say we have decided to live for Jesus, we will do our best to have the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.
Kindness:
-So far we have talked about love, joy, peace, and patience
-Does anyone remember what patience means – to put up with trouble, opposition, or pain with out complaining
-Today we are going to spend a few minutes talking about kindness
-What do you think the word kindness means?
-The act of doing something good for another person even if they don’t deserve it
2 Ways to treat people
-There are 2 different ways we can treat people
Flower #1 (cut away at flower with each point)
-We can make fun of the way someone looks because they look different from us
-We pick a fight with someone because they said something mean to us.
-We can gossip about someone because of something stupid they did
-We can ignore someone because they don’t fit in
Flower #2 (Water flower etc…)
-We can go out of our way to talk to someone who nobody talks to
-We can hang out with someone who doesn’t have any friends
-We can do something nice for someone who seems like a mean person
-We can help someone who needs help
-We can sit with someone at lunch who is sitting all alone
Conclusion:
-What is going to happen to flower #1?
-What is going to happen to flower #2
-If we are going to have the fruit of the spirit in our lives. We need to make sure we have kindness in our lives.
-Kindness shows other people God’s love
-We need to show other people God’s love.
