Discussion:

Introduction:
-Who can remember the verse we have been talking about?

1 John 2:6 “Who ever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.”

-What does this verse mean? (IF we decide to life for Jesus then we need to live like Jesus in every area of our life.

-The verse could also say, “Whoever claims to follow Jesus must walk the way Jesus walked.”

-One of the ways we “walk” like Jesus is by the words we speak.

-The Bible has a lot to say about our words. Let’s look at a couple different things the Bible says about our words.

1. Our Words are Weapons

Bible verse: Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren these things ought not to be so. James 3:10

You need:
Change bag
Dum-dum Suckers
Smarties – enough for one pack for everyone

Introduction:
-When we decide to live for Jesus we need to live for Him in every area of our life.
-That means we need to be very careful what we say
-The Bible actually compares the tongue to a powerful weapon.
-What is a weapon?
-A weapon can have a good use, protection.
-A weapon can have bad use, to kill and destroy.
-The same with our tongue-it can be used for good and bad

Bad Use

(Have a volunteer reach in the change bag and pull out dum-dum suckers)

-There are times in our life when we feel like Dum-Dum’s
-People say things to us that make us feel bad.
-People say things to us that make us feel dumb and stupid.
-People use their tongue in a bad way instead of the way God wants us to use our tongues.
Good Use
-God created us very special.
-God loves us very much.
-We should never think of our selves as dum-dums.

(Have a volunteer put the dum-dums back in the bag with you)

-God’s says something very different about us
-God says we are very smart

(Turn the bag upside down and dump smarties out of it.)

-Gods Word tells us he specially created us.

So the next time someone says something mean to you, remember that is not the way God thinks. God thinks you are very special. God loves you very much.

2. We Can Sin With our Mouth

Bible Verses: “ I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.” Psalm 17:3

Watch what you say

Discussion
-Examine what each team has done and act disappointed because they didn’t really do much of anything. You could even give them another minute to really try harder.

-Question each team as to why they didn’t do what they were supposed to – do we need to get other volunteers up hear.

-We can come to a very important conclusion today from this game – does anyone know what it is? – You can’t put toothpaste back in the tube.
-What I asked you to do was impossible. It is impossible to put toothpaste back in the tube once it has been squeezed out.
-Boys and girls-it is impossible to take back words that we have spoken.
-Boys and girls once words come out of our mouth, it is impossible to take them back.

Conclusion:
-Who loves God with all their heart?
-Who tries their best to obey God?
-One of the areas we need to obey God in is with what comes out of our mouth.
-The Bible teaches us that it is very hard to get control of our tongue. When we get angry or disagree with something – it is easy to fire unkind words out of our tongue.
-One of the ways we show that we love God is by being careful what we say.
-We need to be very careful about the words that come out of our mouth in every situation.
-Sometimes we face people that make us so made we want to just say all kinds of mean things, but we need to keep our tongue under control
-We need to be careful that we do not sin with our tongue.
