Introduction:
Today I am going to tell you a story about a man who got caught in the sin trap. His name is Ahab.

Story:
A long, long time ago there was a very wicked king and queen. They were very wicked, selfish and mean. They did not love God at all. They had fallen into the sin trap. They were especially selfish. They wanted everything everyone else had. (Have them start taking things from the kids, leaders etc.)

There was this guy living in King Ahab’s kingdom, actually he lived next door to the king, named Naboth. Naboth was just an average guy. Naboth loved and obeyed God. He kept to himself. He had the most beautiful vineyard. A vineyard is a grape farm. His land was perfect. There were streams through it and the soil was so good that Naboth grew the best grapes in all the land. Some of his grape vines were more than one hundred years old. Guess what? King Ahab wanted Naboth’s vineyard.

All King Ahab could do was think about what he would do if he had Naboth’s vineyard. He thought of all the things he would plant there – tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, beans, and broccoli. He didn’t want to grow grapes. His plan was to get rid of all the grapes and grow other things. King Ahab thought about it and thought about it. He even dreamed about it.

One day King Ahab when to Naboth and said, “I want to buy your vineyard, and turn it into my vegetable garden.” Naboth was very upset. He told the king it was not for sale but that it was for his children someday. King Ahab walked away pouting like a spoiled brat.

King Ahab went home whining to his wife. He wouldn’t eat or do anything until he had the vineyard. Queen Jezebel came up with a wicked plan that would have Naboth killed. Then the vineyard would belong to the king. The leaders in the land followed Jezebel’s plan and soon enough poor Naboth was killed for something he didn’t even do.

As soon as Naboth was dead, King Ahab jumped out of bed, and went and claimed Naboth’s vineyard for himself.

God was very upset with what King Ahab had done. God sent a man named Elijah to King Ahab. Elijah told King Ahab. “Because you have fallen into the sin trap, and all you do is lie, murder and disobey God – you too must die.” Remember that once you get caught in the sin trap you will die in the sin trap unless you stop sinning and turn to God.

Sure enough a few years later at the very place where Naboth was killed, King Ahab was died in a battle.

Conclusion: The Bible says that everybody sins. Everybody does bad things. Put up your hand if you have ever done something bad. At some point in our life we have a very important decision to make. Are we going to stay caught in the sin trap- always doing bad things and wanting to do bad things or are we going to decide to let go of sin and follow Jesus?

If we decide to stay caught in the sin trap we will die in the sin trap – our life will be destroyed like Ahab. Remember the memory verse – the wages or the cost of sin is death

If we decide to let go of sin and Follow Jesus – we will be able to live. The Bible promises us that if we live for Jesus that we will have Eternal life- that means that even when we die- we will go to heaven and live forever with God. While we are on earth God has a very special plan for us. When we decide to live for Him, He will show us that plan, and we will have a very exciting life. Our life will not be destroyed by sin (drugs, alcohol, jail etc..)
