Story Introduction
-Today I am going to tell you another story about Elijah and King Ahab
-This story took place while there was no rain, but before Elijah asked God to send the rain.
-Elijah decided it was time to see the king again.
-He sent word through a friend for the king to meet him on the top of Mount Carmel

Story
-Even though the king had seen God’s power, He still refused to believe in God instead He worshiped other Gods called Baal.
-The king still hated Elijah and accused Elijah of starting all kinds of problems.
-Elijah decided they needed to show the nation of Israel who the real God is – God or Baal.
-Elijah challenged King Ahab and told him to gather a whole bunch of people together on the mountain that worship and believe in Baal.
-Once all the people were gathered together Elijah made this challenge to them.
-Only one God is the true and living God
-It is time to find out who
-You build and altar to your God made out of wood, and I will build an altar to my God make out of wood.
-Then we will each sacrifice a bull on the alter (cut it up and place it on the altar)
-Then you call out to your God, and I will call out to my God.
-The god who answers by fire – He is the true God.
-Everyone agreed on the plan.
-Elijah decided to be nice and let the people who worshipped Baal go first
-They built their altar
-They sacrificed their bull
-They began to call out to their God in the morning.
-By noon they had not heard anything from their God.
-They yelled a little louder. They began dancing around the altar.
-Elijah started to make fun of them. He said, “Maybe your god is in deep thought, maybe he is traveling or busy or sleeping. Maybe you have to wake him up.”
-They started yelling louder and louder and dancing harder. Then they took their swords and started cutting themselves with their swords, hoping their God would notice.
-It was evening and there was still no answer.
-Elijah began to get his altar ready. He dug a trench all the way around his altar.
-He placed his offering (the bull) on the altar.
-Then he had someone fill four large buckets of water and pour it over the offering.
-Everyone knows water will keep something from catching on fire.
-They did poured four buckets of water over the altar three times.
-Then Elijah stepped forward and prayed out loud to God. “Lord, God of Israel let it be known today that I am your servant and that you are the true and living God. Answer my prayers so all their people will know that you are God and turn their hearts to you. Amen”
-Then the fire of God burned up the altar, which Elijah had built.
-All the people fell on their face and worshipped God.

Conclusion:
-“Call on me and I will answer you” God says
-Elijah called on God and God answered.
-Today we can call on God and He will answer us.
