Discussion:

1. A great multitude of people followed Jesus and His disciples into the wilderness.
A. These people followed Jesus because He had been healing their sick. Jesus always had compassion on the sick and He healed every sick person who came to Him.
B. The people were so desperate to get help from Jesus that they did not care that their meeting place was in such a remote area. There was no place for the people to sleep or eat.
C. Because Jesus had compassion on the people, He helped them He taught them about the kingdom of God, so they could have faith, and He healed the sick.

2. These people had no food to eat.
A. There was no food for any of the people at the end of the day. They were in the desert and it was too far to the villages to buy food. Without food, many of these people would have grown weak. They had a long way to walk to get home. If they were too weak they couldn’t walk home.
B. Jesus told His disciples to give the people something to eat.
C. Andrew found a little boy who was willing to give his lunch to Jesus. The boy had 5 loaves and 2 fishes. (Hold up the basket and show the bread) When we need a miracle God always requires that we use what little we have, even though it may not be nearly enough to meet our needs. Jesus took the boy‘s lunch and blessed it.

3. Jesus gave his disciples a sep of faith to receive a miracle.

A. Before god does miracles to help His people, He requires that we demonstrate our faith in some way or another. He never asks us to do something that is too hard. Jesus simply told His disciples to have the people sit in-group of fifty on the grass.
B. The disciples obeyed Jesus and organized the crowd of 5000 men.
C. Jesus kept pulling our bread form the basket until everyone was filled. (Open the trap door-don‘t let the kid’s see- and start giving each child a piece of bread)
1. God supplies our needs according to His riches in glory and not according to our circumstances.
2. There were 12 baskets leftover because God has more than enough. (After everyone in the class has received bread, put the remaining pieces on the table in full view.)
