Story
There once were tree friends. They were kidnapped and taken far away from their families and friends. They were forced to work for a kind who did not serve God.

These 3 friends loved God very much. They worked hard for the king. They respected the king, but they loved God more.

One day the king made a really bad law.

He built a big huge idol and commanded that everyone in the kingdom worships the idol. Everyone in the kingdom had to bow down and worship the idol.

Meshach, Shadrach, and Abendigo knew they could not do this because they worshipped the true and living God. So the three friends disobeyed the king.

Now the punishment for being not obeying the king’s orders was death. Whoever disobeyed the king would be thrown into a big furnace where they would burn to death.

Meshach, Shadrach, and Abendigo knew they might die, but they obeyed God anyway. They were willing to die for the one true and living God.

When the King heard that the boys disobeyed him, he was really mad.

He called for them immediately. The king liked these boys they were hard workers, but he had no choice they had to be thrown in the furnace if they were going to disobey.

The king gave the boys another chance to bow down to the idol and worship it instead of God. But the 3 boys refused.

So, the king ordered that the furnace be turned up seven times hotter than usual and that the boys be thrown in the furnace.

Object lesson:

Today I brought with me some things to show you what happened when the 3 boys were thrown in the furnace.

It seems that when the 3 boys were thrown in the furnace that they would burn.

(Light the paper napkin dipped in rubbing alcohol)

Just like my napkin is not burning, the 3 boys did not burn.

The king threw them in that hot, hot furnace. There were flames all around them, but the flames did not harm the boys. God protected them.

God protected them from the fire and the flames because they were faithful to him.

When the king looked in the furnace, he couldn’t believe his eyes. The 3 boys were alive and there was even a forth person with them. It was Jesus.

Jesus is always with us when we go through difficult things. When we are obedient to Him, He will protect us.
