Change bag
9 cotton balls

Instructions:

Discussion:

Story: There once was a man who had 5 sheep. He loved his sheep very much. He took really good care of his sheep. He fed them everyday. He led them to good drinking water. He made sure they were always safe. This man loved his 5 sheep very much.

(Show the empty change bag and then have a volunteer count out the 5 sheep and as they do drop them in the change bag as you talk about the above.)

One day something terrible happen. He was taking his sheep for a walk just like he did every day. Every once in awhile he counted his sheep. One time he turned back to count his sheep and there was one missing.

(Have a volunteer take the sheep out of the change bag and count them. There should only be 4)

He only had four sheep. One was missing. Something had happened to one of those sheep. What do you think the man did? Did he say “oh its no big deal I have four others”?

No. The man was so upset. He loved his sheep so much. He looked all over for the missing sheep.

(As you look turn the change bag inside out.)

The man was really upset.

(Have a volunteer count out the 4 sheep and put them back in the bag.)

After looking really hard the man finally found his lost sheep. The man didn’t give up until he found the lost sheep.

(Have a volunteer count out the 5 sheep.)

Conclusion: There is a story in the Bible very similar to this. The man Jesus told us about had 100 sheep. When he lost one of them, he still went looking for the lost one. He loved his sheep very much. That man cared about the lost sheep very much.

In the same way Jesus cares very much about us. He loves us very much and we are very special to Him. Even if we wander off from Jesus, Jesus still loves us and wants to know us. He wants us back.
