Story about When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness.
a. When Jesus lived on the earth in many ways he was just like us.
b. There is one story in the Bible about when the devil tempted Jesus.
c. We are all tempted by the devil.
d. Jesus showed us through this story how to resist the devil.
e. Jesus was in the wilderness praying and fasting when the devil came to him
f. The devil tempted him in three areas.
i. The devil showed him a stone and told Jesus to turn it into bread.
1.Jesus hadn’t eaten in 40 days-How would he have felt about some bread?
ii. The devil showed Jesus all the kingdoms and said, “If you worship me they could all belong to you.
1.If Jesus “owned” the world he wouldn’t have to die.
2.He would have power over everyone and everything or would he?
iii. The devil told him to prove his power by jumping off the top of them temple. “If you really are the Son of God the angels will rescue you.”
1.Jesus was tempted with pride.
2.He could show the world his power.
The Devil’s temptations are designed to kill.
g. All sin leads to death and destruction.
i. The Bible says “There is pleasure in sin for a while but it always leads to destruction.
ii. Many people never stop to think about the consequences of their actions. Then they end up in a real mess.
h. The devil tried to kill Jesus.
Jesus resisted each temptation and so must we.
i. Jesus has a weapon to use against the devil. (Hold up different weapons)
j. Jesus used the weapon of God’s Word. (Hold up a Bible)
k. The Bible says that God’s Word is like a sword. What is a sword used for?
l. Now if you went to fight against your enemy and you had a sword but your enemy didn’t-who would win?
m. When Jesus was tempted He used His sword – The Bible.
n. When the devil tries to tempt us to do something wrong-we need to use our sword
o. When we use our sword the devil has to flee.
Conclusion: If we are going to successfully resist the Devil we need to use our sword which is the Bible. How can you use the sword (Bible) unless you know what is written in the Bible.
