Discussion:

-Who likes pennies?
-Today we are going to do an experiment with pennies.
-I like all my pennies to look this one. (Hold up the new shiny penny) This new shiny penny reminds me of me-Ill explain that later.
-I have all these old dirty pennies. I am going to show you how to clean them up.
-In this bowl I have a secret solution for cleaning pennies. In this bowl I have water to clean off the secret solution.
-Now these dirty pennies remind me of someone before they are a Christian -the dirt is like our sin-our failures, the bad things we have done and do etc. . . .
-The Bible says that when we decided to follow Jesus that our sins are washed away.
-Watch what happens to the dirt on the pennies when I put them in the solutions (Put them in the solutions and then in the water and then dry them off)
-They are clean and shiny like a new penny.
-The secret solution I made is like the blood of Jesus. Jesus died on the cross for our
sins. So that when God looks at us He does not see our sins, He sees the clean you.

- Just like this penny, once washed in the solution is no longer dirty-it is clean -it is like new.
- The Bible says we become new too when we decide to live for Jesus.
-Now what happens if we sin -we are still going to do bad things after we decide to follow Jesus.
- We ask Jesus to forgive us (drop a dirty penny in the solution) -He forgives us and we look like this new penny-all our sin is gone.
-Do you remember 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

B. God wants us to love Him with all parts of our being
-Now because God loves us so much He will always forgive us when we do bad things.
- We need to show our love to God by loving Him with our whole life, and by trying to walk like Jesus walked.
-Let me tell you a story. Pick an adult volunteer to write the following in big letters on
the dry erase board.
1. A boy’s name
2. A topping put on ice cream
3. A vegetable
4. A number between 1-100

-Place bread, milk, and butter on a table in the front. (Have pre-selected actors come up- boy, store owner)
-Tell the following story:

One fine day, a boy named (1) was going to the grocery store for his mother. She had given him (4) dollars, and asked him to buy three things: a loaf of bread, a carton of milk, and some butter.

When (1) got to the store, he saw a beautiful (2) covered in (3) in the window (make this imaginary treat seem absolutely wonderful). Oh, how (1) loved a good (2) covered with (3). (1) counted his money. He had (4) dollars-just enough to buy a loaf of bread, a carton of milk and some butter. (1) didnt have enough money for the wonderful looking (2) covered with (3). (1) thought about what to do. He realized he had enough money for a loaf of bread, a carton of milk and the delicious (2) covered in (3).

(1) thought to himself: Maybe mom wont mind if I just get two of the sings she asked for; she know how much I love a sweet (2) covered in (3).

So, thats what (1) did. He returned home with a loaf of bread, and a carton of milk, but no butter.

(Dismiss your actors)

-Do you think when (1) got home his mother was happy?

-She wasnt happy at all. She wasnt happy because (1) only did part of what she had said.
-Do you know that God asked us to love him with 3 things a. With our heart (hold up the bread)
b. With our soul (hold up the milk) c. With our mind (hold up the butter)
-Do you think God would be happy if He asked us to love him with three things and we only love Him with two things?

Conclusion
-Becoming a Christian involves 2 things.
-We ask God to forgive us of all our sins.
-We decide we are going to follow Jesus with our lives.

-If we are going to be a Christian we need to love Jesus with 3 things. (Use signs)
-With all our heart (Jesus gives us a new heart)
-With all our soul (feelings, emotions)
-With all our mind (thoughts, watch what we put in our mind)

-Really we need to love Jesus with every part of us. We need to walk like Jesus. We need to live like Jesus.

-Hand out a new penny to each kid to take home. Your new penny should remind you of your life in Jesus.
