(Isaac Tells The Story)

I liked what you are doing here so much that I just had to come back another week. Besides I have another story to tell you about my life. It is a much happier story that the one I told you last week.

A while after the whole incident on Mount Moriah, my dad decided it was time for me to get married. My dad wanted me to marry just the right person. He did not want me to marry one of the people living around us. None of them loved God. They all worshipped other gods.

My dad was the smartest person in the world, at least in my opinion. He told me that one of the most important things in life was picking the right wife. He said I needed to marry someone who loved God and would help me fulfill God’s plan for my life. He told me that if I married the wrong person my life would be over, finished – a disaster.

Now I don’t understand exactly why me dad did it this way, but he decided to send his very most trusted servant Eliezer to pick out a wife for me from our home that we had left so many years ago. I had never even been back home. My parents left there home before I was born because God told them to.

Eliezer must have been really nervous. I mean it was all up to him. He had a very long trip. He had to pick out the right wife and then convince her to come home to meet me.

Eliezer prayed and asked God to show him who my wife was to be. Did you know that we should pray about things like that? God has important plans for our life. We need to pray and ask God to help us do what He wants.

Eliezer prayed that the girl who would help him water his camels would be the girl God wanted for Isaac. Now watering camels was no easy job. Imagine how much water one camel would drink. Now imagine how much water lots of camels would drink. Now imagine no running water. All we had back then were wells.

Eliezer entered Haran. He went to the well. He was very thirsty and tired after his long journey across the desert. Sure enough over came a very beautiful woman who loved God. Her name was Rebekah. Rebekah helped water all the camels. Eliezer knew that she was the one for me.

Eliezer went to her family and made the marriage proposal on my behalf. Rebekah and her family consented. They didn’t know me but they knew my parents, so they knew what kind of a person I was.

Rebekah packed all her belongings and headed to her new home with Eliezer. Rebekah and Eliezer were nervous.

I was sitting at home, nervous and excited. I saw them coming in the distance. I ran out to me my new wife. The moment I looked at her I knew she was the one for me. I loved her immediately. Rebekah felt the same way.

We were married immediately. Rebekah helped me serve the Lord and fulfill all the plans He had for me. We had a great life together. I loved every day of our life together.

Jeremiah 29: 11

Today I brought some tools with me. Have the kids name them as you hold them up. Talk about what you use them for. They are made special for a special purpose. They have a special job to do.

-What if this saw was made of plastic? What if we tried to hammer a nail with the saw?
-What if the hammer was made of rubber? What if we tried to cut a board with the hammer?
-What if our eraser was made of steel?

These tools remind me of us. We are all made special. We are all different. We all have a special job to do. If I tried to do the wrong job we would all be in trouble.

-What if Pastor Eric decided to lead worship on Sunday morning like Miss Lindsie?
-What if I tried to drive the bus?

God has a special plan for all of us. That plan includes the person we are going to marry. We need to do everything we can to follow God’s plan.

What is the first step?
