2 cups – one clean on the inside and one dirty on the inside

Discussion:
Introduction:
-Who has decided to live for Jesus?
-When you live for Jesus there are lots of characteristics we should have in our life
-Our life should be different than people around us who do not live for Jesus.
-People should be able to see a difference in our life.
-This week we are going to talk about one important quality a Christian should have.
-A Christian should “Honor God”
-What does it meant to Honor God?
-To love and admire Him
-To praise Him
-To think highly of Him
-To obey all his commands
-What are some ways we can honor God?
Did the Pharisees honor God or not?
-There was a group of people alive when Jesus was alive called “Pharisees”.
-Pharisees thought:
-They were better than everybody else
-Wanted to have special titles like being called “teacher”
-The way the temple or church looked was more important than worshipping God in the temple
-Following all the religious laws were more important than justice, mercy, and honesty
-They looked good on the outside but inside they were full of selfishness and greed.
-The Pharisees did everything right on the outside but on the inside of their heart was full of bad thoughts and feelings.
-Do you think the Pharisees honored God?
The Cup Lesson
-Lets look at these two cups
-One is dirty on the inside and one is dirty on the outside
-If you had to drink out of one of these cups which would you choose?
-These cups teach us an important lesson about the Pharisees and honoring God.
-It teaches us that being clean on the inside is really most important.
-If we are going to truly honor God we must be clean on the inside.
-It is easy to wash off the outside of this cup and then the entire cup is clean.
-How are we clean on the inside:
a. We start to think good thoughts- things that are kind, pure and pleasing to God
b. We can read our Bible
c. We are careful what we watch on TV.
-Once our inside is clean our outside actions will be clean too and we will honor God with our lives.
Conclusion:
-Who wants to honor God with their lives?
-Review ways we can honor God
