Bible Story

Introduction: There are lots of things we should be thankful for, but there is one thing we should be the most thankful for. Can you guess what it is? - Jesus' forgiveness.
-When we do something bad we deserve to be punished. God works the same way.
-Jesus took on our punishment that God says we deserve. He died on the cross.
-We need to be thankful that Jesus has forgiven us.

Story:
-I am going to tell you a story about a lady who was very thankful that Jesus forgave her.
-There was a lady who did really bad things. She deserved a really bad punishment.
-Jesus went to a Pharisee's house for dinner one night.
-Remember what a Pharisee was - some who followed all the laws. They thought they never did anything wrong. They were very religious but they did not really love God in their heart.
-While Jesus was eating dinner with the Pharisee this lady came into the room.
-She stood at the feet of Jesus with a pretty container of oil. She was weeping.
-She kissed the feet of Jesus and she washed his feet with the oil she had.
-That may sound funny now, but in Jesus time this was a way of showing someone great love and appreciation.
-The oil she used to wash Jesus feet was from India. It was very expensive. It would have cost one year's worth of wages.
-Why do you think the woman did this?
-She was so thankful that Jesus had forgiven her of all the bad things she had done.

Conclusion: We should be thankful that Jesus has forgiven us. (Salvation)

There are lots of other things we should be thankful for too. We need to thank God for these things. I thought we would start today by writing out 3 things we are thankful for. (Hand out paper and pencils)

Pledge:
I promise to do my best to be thankful. I will show others that I appreciate what they do for me. I will remember to thank God everyday for the things He gives me and the things He has done for me.
