Bible Story: Lot’s Selfish Choice

Introduction: If I held up these two desserts and told you to choose which one – which one would you choose? Did you make a selfish choice?

Today I am going to tell you a story about a man who made a selfish choice. His choice got him into a lot of trouble.

Who remembers Abraham? Do you remember what God told Abraham to do?

When Abraham moved away his nephew Lot came with him. Abraham and Lot were very both very rich. In the Bible times you were rich if you owned a lot of sheep and other animals. They both owned a lot of animals.

They settled in a place called Bethel. The only problem here was that there was not enough grass and water for all the animals. The animals were crowded. The people taking care of the animals (herdsmen) started fighting. They argued about whose turn it was to eat, whose turn it was to drink.

This made Abraham sad. He went to Lot and said, “This isn’t right. God wants us to get along. I think the best thing for us to do is separate.”

Then Abraham gave Lot a choice in which land he wanted. On one side the land was rocky and sandy. There was just a little grass. On the other side was the Jordan Valley. There was plenty of water and grass. It was beautiful. What land do you think Lot chose? Did Abraham do the right thing?

Lot chose the Jordan Valley. Now most people would think this was a good choice. At first it seemed so wonderful. What Lot didn’t know was that he was camped out near one of the most wicked cities – Sodom. This led to all kinds of problems for Lot and his family. Once he was even captured by enemy and Abraham had to rescue

Pledge:
I promise to do my best to share with others. I will not be selfish or keep everything to my self. I will give to others and let others use or have what is mine.
