Skit: The What Would Have Happened Room?
Introduction:
-People have all kinds of thoughts about heaven and how they get there.
-Some people think everyone goes to heaven when they die.
-Some people don’t believe in heaven
-Some people think if they go to church as much as possible they will go to heaven
-Some people think they have to be as good as possible and then hopefully they will go to heaven.
-None of these things are correct.
-There is only one way to get to heaven.
Object Lesson:
-Today I have brought with me some delicious ice cream
-Who likes ice cream?
-Who likes milkshakes?
-Today I am going to make a milkshake
-Since Ice cream is really good – this ice cream is going to be like all the good things we have done to try and get to heaven
-The time we helped the old lady next door
-The times we did all our chores
-The times we went to church
-The times we volunteered at church
-The times we were honest when everyone else lied
-Look at how good this looks we have really been a good person.
-Who think we should be able to get to heaven for sure.
-Opps – What about the time we fought with our brother? (add dirt)
-What about the time we stole a little piece of candy? (add dirt)
-What about the time we talked bad about our friend? (add dirt)
-Blend it up
-Now who would love to come up here and drink this delicious milkshake?
-What if I added some more good things
-I will pray more today
-I will go to church 5 times a week
-I will clean the house for my parents
-Is this making it better? Do my good works make up for the bad things I do?
Conclusion:
-It doesn’t matter how many good things I do.
-It doesn’t matter how many times I go to church.
-None of these things will get me into heaven and none of these things will make me a better person.
-The only way to get to heaven, and the old way to get rid of this dirt called “sin” is to live for Jesus.
-We need to decide that we are going to love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul and mind.
-When we decide to live for Jesus, then He forgives us.
-Jesus gives us a brand new start-All the dirt is gone.
-When we decide to live for Jesus then we will be able to go to heaven.
-Jesus is the only way to heaven!
