Discussion:

Introduction:
-Today we are going to learn one more characteristic of a Christian
Spend Time With God

-How do you think we spend time with God?
-Read the Bible
-Pray
-Go to church or Kidz Club

Activity:
Choose a volunteer to be blindfolded (an adult might make it funnier). First have the person wall through the maze all by themselves.

Talk:
This person right now represents someone who is trying to go through life without God in his or her life. There is no one to guide them. Therefore they are struggling and getting into all kinds of troubles. Do you think this person will make it all the way to the end successfully? Probably not. People who refuse to have a relationship with God do not make it through life successfully.

Activity:
Use the same blindfolded volunteer, and talk him through the maze, giving him voice instructions.

Talk:
This person represents someone who had called upon God for help. This person has decided that he cannot live his life all on his own, but he needs to have God in his life. He has decided to live for Jesus. He has decided to call on God. God is helping him walk through life. It doesn’t matter how hard life gets God will always be there to help us through our life. People like this make it through their life successfully.

Bible Story:
Introduction: I am going to tell you a story about two women and at the end I want you to tell me what it has to do with spending time with God.

(You could act out the story by having 2 different head covers, when doing Martha’s part put on one color, when doing Mary’s part put on the other color.)

Story: “Mary, Mary, hurry up! Jesus will soon be here. The house must be clean and the food ready,” said Martha as she ran around tidying things.

Aren’t these lovely grapes? These are the best we have. Jesus will just love them. I am so excited that Jesus is coming. I can’t wait to see him,” Mary said happily, and hummed as she got the food ready. “Martha why are you so worried, why are you moving so fast? Jesus will be so happy to have a place to sit, a nice meal and some friends to talk to.”

“Mary you are so foolish! We must have a spotless house, and a huge feast. Now hurry up and start working!” said Martha.

When Jesus came walking up the rode Mary got so excited. She ran to the door and began waving to him while he was still far off. Her whole face glowed. She welcomed Jesus, and showed Him in the house. She showed Him the nice seat she got ready for Him.

Mary said, “Jesus we are so happy you are here today. Martha is still cooking but please sit and talk with me. Please teach me something. I want to hear everything you have to say.”

So Jesus sat down, while her was munching on the nice snacks Mary had laid out he began to tell stories. Mary sat lovingly by the feet of Jesus and listened to the stories Jesus was telling.

Out of the kitchen burst Martha. She was mad. “I’ve worked non-stop trying to prepare a feast and clean the house, Mary, and here you sit. That is not fair. Jesus, don’t you see how unfair Mary is being to me. I can’t even visit with my own company because she is doing none of the work. Jesus please tell her she must help me.”

Ask: What do you think Jesus said at this point?

The end: Jesus felt bad for Martha. She was worried about so many things. But Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen the best thing. Mary chose to spend time with Jesus instead of worrying about all the little things in her life. It must have been hard for Martha to hear what Jesus had to say. She thought she was doing what was right. Martha was actually missing out on the most important thing – time with Jesus.

Ask: Whom do you think we need to be like?

Conclusion:
Everyone knows what it is like to be busy – going to school, doing homework, doing chores, etc. . But don’t ever get too busy with other things that you don’t have time for God.

Pledge:
I promise to do my best to spend time with God. I will read my Bible and pray everyday.
