Object Lesson:
-It is very important we work together as Christians.
-Lets look at a pair of scissors.
-How many parts does a pair of scissors have?
-The 2 parts are fastened together in the middle.
-When you cut something both parts of the scissors are used.
-What if you had ½ a pair of scissors
-How many hands do we have?
-Now watch me put cream on with only one hand at a time. (Only use one hand)
-It doesn’t work so well does it?
-Now if I put cream on with both hands it works better –each hand is helping the other hand.
-I want you to hold one hand up in the air.
-Now I want you to clap with that one hand.
-It doesn’t work so well either.
-Try clapping with your neighbor’s hand.
-Helping each other and working together is an important part of being a Christian.
God compares us to a Body.
You need:
Envelopes with paper body parts in each one
-Have some volunteers come up and give them all an envelope.
-Have them open up their envelope.
-Have some of them tell what is inside their envelope.
-These are all parts of a body, but they don’t mean much when they are all apart do they.
-Let’s put them together.
-The Bible compares Christians to a body. There are many different parts with many different jobs. When we all work together we can change the world.
-Put the body together and talk about different gifts we have.
-For instance; teachers, fixing things, missionaries, taking care of people, sports, music, art etc.
-Now what is our body missing (a head)
-The Bible tells us that Jesus is like the head.
-He knows where and when other body parts should be used. All parts of the human body are guided by the head.
-Jesus is our guide
When we all work together we are strong.
You need:
4 bottle caps
4 eggs
Brick
-One of the exciting things about the body of Christ is that everyone is important and everyone has a job.
-Set out 4 bottle caps. Each bottle cap represents different people in the church.
-Older people have often been strong in their faith for many years. They have sent an example for the rest of us to live by. They often have good wisdom for us to follow (set an egg on one cap)
-Then there are adults –middle aged. They often help run a lot of the ministries in the church. (Set a second egg on a second bottle cap)
-Then there are the teens –teens have lots of energy and excitement –using that energy and excitement for God can be powerful thing (set a third egg on a cap)
-The forth egg represent the kids. Kids know how to love God easily. Kids have faith in God easily (set a forth egg on the cap)
-Now sometimes people think they can do everything by themselves-they don’t need others. Do you think that is right?
-This one egg (set one egg in a cap) represents us trying to serve God all on our own. What is going to happen when I put this brick on that one egg?
-Put caps on the top of all the other eggs.
-What do you think is going to happen when I put this brick on top of all the eggs?
-It doesn’t break.
-When we all work together we are strong.
Conclusion:
-Challenge the kid’s to think about their talent and gifts and how they can use them to make a difference.
