Don’t Hang Around Dead People

Verse: Do not be deceived Evil company corrupts good habits. 1 Corinthians 15:33
Props:
a stretcher with a ”dead person” on it.
2 cotton ropes four feet in length.
Instructions:
Create an atmosphere in your classroom similar to that of a funeral - Candles and taped organ music will help.
Discussion:
1 There are 2 kinds of people living here on earth.
A. When we receive Christ we are mad spiritually alive. People who do not have Christ are spiritually dead. (Have the “dead” person carried in) Things that are dead smell. A person can be alive in his body but dead in his spirit.
B. It is not natural for a living person to want to be near dead things.
2. A spiritually dead person can do lots of fun things.
A. They might have a neat room.
B. They might be a great athlete.
C. They might be fun to hang around.
3. We are not to tie ourselves to the spiritually dead. Read 2 Corinthian 6:14
A. If we become yoked or closely tied to spiritually dead people, we are going to be held back spiritually. (At this point bring a smaller child to the front of the room, using the ropes tie his hands tot he hands of the dead person.)
B. If we become close friends with those who are spiritually dead, their sins will become our sins. (Talk about what the dead person could lead the alive person to do)
4. When we are bound to sinners, they hinder us from obeying God.
1. They keep us from going to church. (Tell the ?alive? boy to go to church (referring to the class as church). Of course he will only be able to get so far.)
2. They might keep us from reading our Bible (Tell the ?alive? boy to get a Bible-make sure it is out of reach)
3. They might keep us from praising God. (Tell the boy to lift his hands and dance - it should be difficult for him to do so)
4. They might keep us from giving offerings to God. (Tell the boy to get his offering - should be out of reach, and put it in the basket.)
Closing: It is good for us to be kind and loving towards people who do not know Jesus. We cannot be best friends with them because it might keep us from serving Jesus. Pray for people we know that do not know Jesus.
