Topic: Bible Verses

Verse: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgives us our sins and to cleans us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Props:

a red cloth
a poster-board heart with a fold-over flap
cleaning supplies labeled: Good Deeds, Tithes and Offerings, Church Attendance
a sponge
3-4 sin stains from black/brown construction paper
masking tape

Instructions:

Heart preparation: cut the largest red heart possible. Then cut ? a heart of the same size. Attach the ? to the full heart, on the straight edge of the ? heart, down the middle of the full heart. Attach it securely with masking tap to create a heart with a flap. One side of the flap use a marker to create a stained heart. Keep this side down with a small piece of tape.

Discussion:

1. Sin makes the human heart dirty and sad. (The dirty side of the heart should be exposed)
A. There is fun in sin for a short while, but it never lasts
B. Sin makes the human heartsick. The Bible tells us that sin kills. When people fill their hearts with sin, life becomes boring and difficult.
C. God hates sin because of what it does to the people He loves.

2. The human heart cannot be cleansed by good works.
A. We cannot wash away our sins by going to church (Spray bottle with correct label on it and try to clean the heart).
B. We cannot wash away our sins by giving offerings (repeat cleaning)
C. We cannot wash away our sins by doing good deeds. (Repeat cleaning)
D. These are all good things to do, but they cannot clean our heart from sin.

3. There is only one way to clean our heart from sin.
A. The blood of Jesus was shed to wash away our sins. (Completely cover the heart with the red cloth and begin to scrub. As you scrub, carefully turn the flap over to reveal the clean face of the heart. Pull away the cloth)
B. Jesus blood had to be shed for our sins. He was an innocent man who took our place. He is the price that God had to pay to justify, cleanse and forgive us.

C. If we as Christians sin, His blood can cleanse away any stain we put on our hearts. (Put a few stains on sin on the heart. Remove them with the red cloth as you quote 1John1: 9)

Closing: The blood of Jesus is the only thing that can cleanse our heart from sin. It doesnt matter what we have done; the sins are washed away by His shed blood. (See if any children want to get saved.) Pray a prayer with the children thanking God for the blood of Jesus.
