Introduction:
-What do you think it means to follow Jesus?
-In our world today there are a lot of things we try to follow because of advertising. Can you name some?
-Grocery store
-Tells us what tastes the best
-What doesn’t have fat or sugar?
-What is on sale?
-TV – Tells us which show we just can’t miss
-What the best cell phone is to buy
-What kind of car we need to have

-School
-What the newest fashions are we have to have or we are nobody
-Who we have to hand around or we are nobody

-The world is always telling us what to follow and it is very costly to follow these things.
-How easy is it to follow Jesus when the “world’s” advertising seems much flashier?
-Following Jesus isn’t easy when the world is constantly “advertising” other things that you must follow. How do you think you follow Jesus even when everyone else says, “Follow me.”

We follow what is appealing.

Who hear wants a treat?

-Hold up cat treat. – Who would like one? (No one)

-Hold up candy – who would like one?

-Hold up $1.00 – who would like one?

-People tend to follow what appeals to them the most – what they like or want. Sometimes following Jesus might not seem as appealing as following other things.
-Unlike all the advertising done for other things, Jesus simply tell us to follow Him. Jesus doesn’t put add on television on the radio. Jesus doesn’t have billboards up all over the city. Jesus doesn’t send out a flyer telling us the benefits of following Him.

We can’t follow two people at once.

-Have 2 volunteers come up to the front. Explain that they are both the leaders of “Follow the leader”. Whisper to one of them to do sit up and the other to do jumping jacks. Tell everyone that they are to follow both leaders.
-Ask the kids “What is the problem with this?”

-You cannot follow 2 leaders at the same time. It is impossible.
-A common mistake that a lot of Christians make is that they try to follow two leaders. They try to follow “Jesus” and they try to follow something else like “popularity” or “money”.
-In our life we all have to decide whom we are going to follow. Following Jesus might not be the most popular or the easiest but it is the best choice.
