2 Papers for everyone
Pencils for everyone
4 paper plates with famous people on (Jesus on one)
4 volunteers

Instructions:

A. Game:
8 Volunteers
8 Envelopes

Instructions: Give each volunteer an envelope, and tell them to put a piece of their hair in the envelope. Then have them mark their birthday on the envelope. (So we know whose is whose) They can sit down. Number each envelope.

Object: choose 2 other volunteers to try to identify whose hair is whose. Write their answers on the white board.

See it they got any right.

B. Activity:
Instructions: Pass out a scrap piece of paper to everyone and a pencil. Have them write down one word that best describes Jesus to them. Collect the papers and pencils.

C. Activity:
You need:
4 paper plates with famous people written on them (1 with Jesus)
4 volunteers

Instructions: Lay the paper plates face down on the floor. Have the kids stand on one paper plate of their choice. Explain that there is the name of a famous person on the other side of the plate. We will look at the name and then the teacher will ask some questions about that person. Remember to pick the plate with Jesus on it last.

Discussion:

Discussion:
-How easy was it to identify a person by their hair?
-What was difficult about this activity?
-What could we have put in the envelope that would have made it easier?

Just like it is difficult to identify or know someone only by their hairs, we can’t really know Jesus if we only see or hear about a small part of Him. If you only hear about Jesus once in a while when you come to church do you really think you can get to know Him?

If we are going to live for Jesus then one of the most important things is that we desire to get to know Him. Just like if you make a new friend what do you want to do?

If I stood up hear today and told you a story about Paul in India, could you say that you know Paul in India? Why? You have learned a little bit about Paul, but you would not know Paul until you have actually spent time with Him and talked to Him yourself.

Discussion: Have a couple volunteers come to the front and take turns reading the papers.
Who can tell me what they learned from reading the cards?

By doing this activity we have learned what others think about Jesus. We have learned a lot about Jesus. But did to get to know Jesus personally? (No)

What is the only way to get to know someone? To spend time with them.

We could do this same activity about other people. You could learn a lot about others, but you will never know someone until you have spent time with them.

For example: Victoria likes to read stories about the presidents. She knows a lot about Abraham Lincoln because she did a research project on him. Does Victoria know Abraham Lincoln? No – he is dead that would be impossible. She just knows a lot about Him.

When you come to Kidz Club all the time you learn a lot about Jesus, but you will not get to know Him unless you spend time with Him. Knowing a lot about Jesus will not help you unless you know Him personally. You cannot decide to live for Jesus unless you know Jesus.

Discussion for 3 plates:
How would your relationship with this person change the way you live, your free time or your group of friends?
Would your parents approve of this relationship? Why or why not?
Would you want to grow up to be like this person? Why or why not?

What is the difference between knowing about someone and knowing someone?

Turn up the Jesus plate and go through the questions

Conclusion:
I am sure there are lots of kids that come to Kidz Club or go to church that know about Jesus. Some kids probably know tons because they go to Kidz Club 3 times a week, and some kids may only know a little because they only come once or twice a month. Knowing about Jesus is not what is important. Knowing about Jesus doesn’t mean anything. What is important is knowing Jesus personally – they way you know your best friend.

Listen to what the Bible says

1 John 2:3 – 6
We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The person who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we know him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.

If we are going to say that we have decided to live for Jesus that we must walk, talk and live like Him. In order to walk, talk and live like Jesus we must know Jesus personally, not know about Him.
