Introduction: This week we are talking about the second Most Important Thing - I have sinned.

1. Small sins can have big consequences.
I want to show you today how a little sin can turn into death (Hold up the poster board that says ”sin=Death”)

It may seem impossible for one little wrong, or sin, to ever turn into something big-especially death. The truth is that most big events have small beginnings. (Hold up the nickel and dime) Here’s the evidence. This nickel and dime represent a little beginning that ended in death -15 cents that ended a life.

Ace was a young boy who was always in a hurry to get whatever he wanted. After all, “you’ve got to make your own way in this world.” Ace would say. “Take what you want, just don’t get caught.” The worst thing about what Ace was saying was that it worked for him. He was getting his way, or so it seemed.

The nickel and dime represent what Ace took from his mother’s purse. Little needs grow into big needs. Ace just started taking whatever he needed whenever he needed it. This led to the day Ace and some of his friends felt like a joy ride. Of course, they didn’t have a car. No problem for Ace: he knew the answer-just don’t get caught.

The story would have ended happier if Ace and his friends had just been arrested for stealing, but that is not how it ended. The trip for Ace and his friends ended in a car accident. Nobody walked away from the accident. The ride ended in death.

It seems impossible, but this nickel and dime taken in sin can end in death. Little sins can lead to death. We need to turn from sin and not allow ourselves to believe that we can get away with it.

2. Repeated sin becomes a habit

When you sin once (i.e. stealing) it seems like it would be easy to stop yourself from doing it again.. (Have a volunteer come up. Tie a piece of thread around their wrist once, and break it.) If you do the same thing or types of things over and over again, How hard would it be to stop sinning? (Have a volunteer come up. Wrap thread around their wrist over and over again.)

You may think you can get a way with sin. But if you keep sinning over and over and over again, and you try to break that sin-look at what happens (Try to break the thread) You can do all kinds of things to try to stop the sin. But because you have done it over and over and over again, it becomes a habit that you can’t break.

What can help you to stop sinning? (Ask the kid’s) (Hold up the scissors labeled ”repentance”) Repentance. True repentance is asking God to forgive you and turning away from the sin. The Bible says that the truth will set you free. The truth convicts you of your sins, and repentance breaks its power. Don’t let sin deceive you into thinking that you can do it once and get away with it. If you are already ensnared, then repent, ask God to forgive you and don’t do it again!

Use the story of the Prodigal’s Son
1. The young boy sinned.
2. He repented.
3. The Father restored him and threw a party for him.
