Discussion:

Introduction:
-Who has a book bag they use a lot?
-Do you have a favorite book bag?
-Is your book bag so heavy after school some days that you can hardly carry it home?
-I have a favorite book bag. I carry it everywhere I go. I have for years.
-It is getting pretty heavy but I don’t like to go far without it.
-I have a lot of great things in here, and I have some not so great things.
-I have some very important tools that help me handle life.
-I have some great memories
-Then I have some garbage – but we don’t want to talk about that right now.

Point:
-You know what boys and girls, we all have something like this book bag in our life.
-You may not carry around a book bag – but you have an imaginary book bag.
-As we go through life we “pack” different tools to handle different situations we face
-Here are some examples of some not so good things that might be in your backpack:
-If people are mean to you or make fun of you, you may pull anger or hate out of your backpack
-If you hear a scary noise in the middle of the night, you may pull out fear out of your backpack
-Maybe you have a great toy and your friend wants to borrow it – you may pull out selfishness
-You may have other things like loneliness, jealousy or pride

-As Christians, we need to replace these not so good things with good things:
-We need to replace hate with love
-We need to replace bravery with fear
-We need to replace sharing with selfishness
-We need to make sure we have respect, friendship and happiness in our book bags

Conclusion:
-There is one more thing we really need to make sure we have in our book bag.
-Can you guess what it is?
-The Bible
-We need to always have God’s Word in our book bag – our heart.
-We need to study, learn and read God’s Word.
-It is the most important tool in our book bag
-It can help us face any situation
