Verse: If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away: behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Props:
Magic paper bag
Pieces of paper with words like: emptiness, anger, envy written on them
Piece of paper resembling the first set with the Fruits of the Sprit written on them
Instructions:
To make a magic paper bag:
-2 bags exactly the same
-scissors
-Glue stick
Cut one of the bags in half on the fold marks. Also, cut it so the bottom is on one half. Talk the half with the bottom. That half is going to be carefully glued at the bottom and the sides –inside the other bag. This will create a secret pocket that is invisible when holding the bag open from the top long sides. Make sure you are very particular when gluing the inside bag. You want to make it as invisible as possible.
Before teaching the lesson put the fruit of the spirit papers in the main part of the bag. Set the other pieces of paper down at the front.
Discussion:
Lesson:
Talk about how your life was before you met Jesus. Talk about how you were empty, angry, envious etc. Use the pieces of paper that you have these words written on to describe yourself. You can make it personal
Talk about how one day you decided to life for Jesus. You can share your testimony with the children.
Talk about how you gave God all these bad feeling. You asked God to forgive for them, and you gave them to God.
(As you do put the bad pieces of paper in the secret pocket.)
Do you know what happened?
The Bible says that when we decide to live for Jesus that we become a new person.
God gave me new things in my life.
God filled me with . . . (Pull out the Fruits of the Spirit and talk about how God gave these to you)
Talk about how different your life is now. How much better you feel etc.
Challenge the children to do the same thing.
