Discussion:

Introduction:
-As long as we are alive on earth the devil is going to tempt us to do things we should not do.
-He is always going to tempt us where we are weak.
-He is not going to tempt us to do things we would never even consider doing.

Object Lesson 1:
-Have a volunteer walk across the front.
-Have 2 volunteers throw wads of paper at the person.
-This is what it looks like when the devil is trying to tempt us.
-He is throwing thoughts at us – ideas of things we could do that would not please God.
-See how all the thoughts and temptations are hitting the volunteer.
-Temptation is all around us – at school, at home, with our friends, with our brothers and sisters.
-It hits us all day long – constantly.
-Until we get weaker and weaker and weaker and then give in.

-You could even have another volunteer try to walk across the front. Instruct them to “avoid” getting hit.

Discussion:
-There is something we can do
-Does anyone have any ideas?
-We can protect ourselves with God’s Word

Object Lesson 2:
-Have the same volunteer hold up a sheet that says “Word of God” on it.
-Have him walk across the front while the other volunteer is throwing wads of paper at him.
-The Word of God is protecting the volunteer from the temptations.

Discussion:
-The best weapon we have against the temptations the devil tries to send is the “Word of God”
-God’s Word is very powerful – It helps us defeat the devil.
-The Word of God in our heart keeps us on the right track.

Story:
-One time Jesus was tempted by the devil.
-Jesus went off by himself and fasted and prayed for 40 days.
-Then the devil came to Jesus three times and tempted him.
-Every time the devil tempted him, Jesus used the Word of God against the temptation.
-Jesus defeated the devil with the Word of God.

Conclusion:
-We need to have God’s Word in our heart so we stand against the temptations of the devil.
