Discussion:

Introduction:
-Who can tell me something that is your favorite thing? It could be something you like to play with or do. Maybe you own it or you wish you owned it.
-As the kids tell you some of their favorite things, write them down on the side of boxes. Fill up the boxes and then set the boxes in a chair at the front and center of the room.
-After there are a few boxes on the chair-talk about how the chair is getting full.
-Now lets pretend this chair is not really a chair-it is a throne.
-Who sits on a throne? A king
-What does a throne mean to you? It is a sign of who is in charge, It is for someone very special. It mean we need to respect whoever is sitting there.
-Who is your king? – the most important person in your life – the person in charge of your life. (JESUS)
-We have a little problem with this throne –We have so much stuff on it that there is no room for a king.
-Where is our king going to sit on this throne?
-We need to get rid of all this stuff to make for the king. (Dump everything off the chair so it is empty again.)

Point: Many of us have things in our life that crowd Jesus out. It is okay to enjoy some of the things we talked about but none of them should become more important than Jesus. Jesus needs to be first place in our lives.

Bible Verse: Say the verse together as a group over and over in different voices.

Divide into Small groups

1. Play the memory verse game – Each group gets an envelope with the words in the verse all mixed up. On “go” they have to take the words out of the envelope and put the verse together. The first team done, wins.

2. Give each team a Bible and paper with questions. The team has to read the Bible story and answer the questions. When your team is done bring the page to the front.

3. Pray for each other. Go around and see who needs prayer for what.

Conclusion:

-Who here likes dessert?
-It is the best part of any meal.
-What kind of desserts do you like?
-Choose a volunteer or two to come to the front.
-Today I have brought some cookies – who would like to come to the front and enjoy one or two of my cookies?
-Once they come up ask them if they want to eat it now.
-Have the volunteers take a bite of their cookie.
-IT is really too bad you wanted to eat your dessert now. If you would have decided to wait until the end of class, look what you could have had.
(Hold up some big, delicious looking dessert)

-This reminds me of our lesson today. Some of things we talked about earlier that we really like. It seems like we just can’t wait to have them or play with them.
-The Bible teaches us that God has a much better and bigger reward for us someday in heaven.
-That is why we need to make sure that Jesus is on our throne.
-We need to focus our life on Him, and wait for the bigger and better reward.
