Stony Heart, New Heart

Posted by: Buffalo Dream Center

Topic: 4 Most Important Things

Verse: Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh that they may walk in my statutes, and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God. Ezekiel 11: 19,20

Props:

1 rock
1 Sponge
2 Cookie sheets
2 Water guns

Instructions:

Today we are going to have a contest.

Game:
Set the rock and sponge on a cookie sheet down the aisle. Choose 2 volunteer to come to the front and give them each a water gun. On “go” have the volunteers see that can get their item the wettest. When the whistle blows examine each item. Hopefully the sponge person won.

Discussion:

Boys and girls this game reminds me of something very important.

1. Review of the 4 Most Important Things

(Hold up the rock)

2. This rock reminds me of someone’s heart who has not decided to live for Jesus.
-This rock was very dirty and it is hard
-Before we decide to live for Jesus our heart is dirty with sin
-Before we decide to live for Jesus our heart is hard – Nothing can get inside and change our heart
- What should we want to get inside our heart besides Jesus that would be good for us and change us? – God’s Word
-God’s Word cannot get inside a hard heart.

(Hold up the sponge)

3. This sponge reminds me of someone’s heart who has decided to live for Jesus
-It is clean – We use sponges to clean things so they are usually clean
-When we decide to live for Jesus our heart becomes clean
-Jesus forgives and washes away all our sin – the bad things we do
-This sponge is soft and able to soak up water
-When we decide to live for Jesus our heart becomes soft and we can soak up something very important.
-Does anyone know what that is – The Word of God
-When we decide to live for Jesus it is so easy for God’s Word to get soaked up in our heart. It is easy for us to learn how God wants us to live.
-It is easy for God’s Word to fill our hearts

4. Conclusion:
Boys and girls I want you to think about what kind of heart you have.
-Do you have the rock kind of heart?
-Maybe you have never decided to live for Jesus
-God’s Word doesn’t affect your life
-You live the way you want to instead of how Jesus wants you to.
-Do you have a sponge heart?
-You have decided to live for Jesus
-You are learning and soaking up God’s Word
-You are doing your best to live the way Jesus wants you to

Boys and girls if you think you have the rock kind of heart – You can get a new heart if you want to. Jesus wants all of us to have a sponge heart. Jesus wants to give you a new heart today- all you have to do is ask Him.
