1. Introduction:
-The second most important thing is “I have sinned.”
-The Bible teaches us that, “All have sinned “
-That means everyone who has ever lived on the planet earth has sinned
-Let’s see what you know about sin
-What is sin?
-Name some sins
-How is sin punished?
-Today I want to talk about sin in a little different way.
-Today I want to talk about another definition for the word sin.
-Sin also means to “miss the mark.”
2. Miss the mark
-This definition of sin reminds me of a game we played at our carnival at camp.
-It reminds me of “Pop the Balloon”
-Who played this game?
-The object was to hit the balloon with the dart – if you did you got a ticket-if you missed the mark you didn’t.
-Who hit a balloon? Who missed?
-Have a few volunteers try to hit the balloon
-Let’s go back to talking about sin
-When we disobey our parents – we miss the mark (Throw a dart but don’t hit the balloon)
-When we cheat in school we miss the mark
-When we fight with others we miss the mark
-When we lie we miss the mark
-How about this one – when we don’t tell our friends about Jesus – we miss the mark
-Everyone thinks sin in only the bad thing we do
-Sin is also the good things we don’t do.
-Sin is when we miss the mark that Jesus has set for us to live by
-Sin is when we don’t tell our friends and family about Jesus.
-Jesus told us to “Go in to all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.”
-We miss the mark when we don’t tell others about Jesus.
3. Conclusion:
-Boys and girls – hold out your hands
-Now think about some of your best friends in the world.
-What if your best friend had a terrible sickness and was dying?
-What if you had the cure in your hands? (Imagine you had the cure right there in your hands)
-What would you do?
-You would give your friend that cure.
-Boys and girls – the Bible teaches us that the world is full of dying people – the price of sin is death
-Because of sin the world is dying – without Jesus the people that die – they go to hell-their life is over forever
-Boys and girls in your hands you hold the cure for sin and death
-Who can tell me that cure? Jesus
-Jesus promised those who believe in Him the gift of Eternal Life.
-When we decide to live for Jesus we are cured from sin and death.
-He also made it our responsibility to share the cure with others.
-For those of us who have been cured from sin and death we have a responsibility to share the cure with others
-Boys and girls – we need to stop missing the mark – we need to ask God to forgive us for not telling others about Jesus
-Today from this day on we need to share the cure for sin and death with the world
