Instructions:
Explain: In this suitcase I have a present for someone. It is a free present. I was trying to decide whom to give this present to. Who wants it? Pick someone to come up and try to get it. (It is locked)
Should I give this present to the best-behaved person today? What about the person that goes to church the most? What about the person who did the most good deeds this past week?
Well I think I will think about it a little.
While we were singing I remembered where I put the keys to this suitcase. If we have the key to this suitcase can we get the gift out of it?
Now I still have to decide who is going to get the gift. I thought about what I said before – the best behaved, the person who comes to church the most, the person who has done the best deeds. Then I decided I would pick just any person. (Pick someone)
Now before I let _____________open the suitcase and get their present I want to talk to you for a minute about something.
The gift in this box reminds me of a gift that Jesus gives to us. Can anybody think about what gift Jesus gives to us? “Salvation” – what does that big word mean?
What did Jesus do for you? Jesus died on the cross for me, so that my sins could be forgiven. Also, so that I could live forever in Heaven with Him.
The gift that Jesus gave to us – is it only for certain people?
-Is it for people who behave the best and sin the least?
-Is it for people who go to church the most?
-Is it for people who do a lot of good deeds?
Just like I decided to just give this gift away no strings attached, Jesus offers salvation to whoever wants it.
Now I have one more question what do you have to do to receive the gift I have for you? You have to act – You have to get out of your seat, come to the front, help open the suitcase, reach in and take the gift. If you don’t will you get the gift?
How do you receive the gift of salvation? By acting – You must decide to live for Jesus.
