Topic: bible verses

Verse: All things, whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive them. Matthew 21:22

Props:

a small box that can be locked with a padlock and a key
4 pieces of costume jewelry
string
3 keys other than the 1 that fits the padlock
a marker
2X3 cards for labels.

Instructions:

tie an 8-10 inch long piece of string to each piece of jewelry and attach a label to the other end of the string. Mark the labels “provision”, “protection”, “health”, and “forgiveness”. Put the jewelry into the box, but leave the labels outside. Secure the box with the padlock and label the key “faith”. Label the other 3 keys “need”, “good works”, and “religion”.

Discussion:

1. The blessings of God are locked away so that not just anyone can receive them.
A. God has wonderful blessings that He wants his people to enjoy. (Hold up box and indicate that there are treasures inside). When God created the earth, everything He put into it was good.

B. The blessings of God are locked away so that ungodly and evil people cannot get them. If people could receive God’s blessings without knowing Him, they would never turn away from their wicked ways.

2. God’s blessings are not given to us just because we have a great need.
A. Great needs do not unlock the door of God’s blessings. (Try to unlock the padlock with the key labeled “need”). If people could open the door to God’s treasures just by having needs, evil men could be as blessed as the righteous.

B. Religion does not open the door to God’s blessing. (Try to unlock the padlock with the key labeled “religion”). Religion is man’s way of approaching God-not God’s way. Just because a person goes to church it does not mean he is a true Christian.

C. Good works do not open the doors to God’s blessings. (Try to unlock the padlock with the key labeled “good works”). Although it is important to do good works, you cannot earn your salvation.

3. Faith in God opens the door to God’s blessings.
A. The Bible says that God loves people and wants to meet their needs. The Bible says he searches the earth continually to find people He can help.

B. God met every need a person could have when He send His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for all mankind.

C. God rewards people who approach Him with faith. Read Hebrews 11:6. Faith is believing what God says and acting on it. Faith opens the treasure chest of God’s blessings.

D. All of God’s blessings can be obtained by faith. (Pull out each piece of jewelry and talk about how each one is God’s blessing.
