Introduction:
-Today we are going to learn Cool Rule # 9 - Never tell a lie
-The Bible says that God hates lying lips - we should hate what God hates

1. A lying tongue is like a poisonous snake.
-Poisonous snakes can kill with a single bite.
(Hold up 1 rubber snake, and relate a story you may have heard about snake bites)
-The snake uses his fangs like needles to inject poison into his victims.
-The person who tells a lie is like a person with a snake in his mouth. (Have a volunteer hold up the picture of the boy's face with the mouth cut out -we have one- and demonstrate this by dangling a rubber snake from his mouth.)
-Lying brings destruction to you and others
-Lying hurts you and others

2. People tell lies because they think it helps them.
-Some people tell lies to get out of trouble. (Dangle a snake from the boy's mouth)
1. When you do wrong, you are already in trouble.
2. Lying doesn't get you out of trouble. It only delays the punishment and makes it worse. (Remove this snake)

-Some people tell lies to get what they want. (Dangle a second snake from the boy's face)

-Some people tell lies so they will look good to others. (Place a third snake in the boy's mouth)
1. These people tell lies to impress their friends.
2. When another person learns that you have been untruthful, it destroys their faith in you.

-Some people lie so much they are controlled by lies (Place a fourth snack in the boy's mouth)

Illustration:
-Have a volunteer come up to the front.
-Prepare ahead of time little pieces of paper that say "LIE" on them.
-Have pieces ready or have an adult volunteer come up and help you put tape on the back of the pieces of paper
-Tell the following story and as you do stick pieces of paper to their body until they are covered.
-Ask the volunteer what their name is ______________

Story:
_________ looks like a pretty nice kid. He doesn't look like a liar to me. Well let's pretend that _________ gets himself in some trouble at school, and so he decides to tell a lie. Just one little lie. It won't hurt anything. (Stick your first piece of paper to the volunteer).

Remember that once you tell one lie, you usually have to tell another lie to cover up the first one. Sure enough when __________gets home he has to lie to his mom - so he won't get in trouble. (Stick another piece of paper to him). So now ________has told two lies. Guess what happens next. _________ has to lie again to his dad. (Stick another piece of paper to him)

Three lies. Guess what happens next -another lie. One lie leads to another lie, which lead to another lie an so on. (Continue sticking pieces of paper to the person)

Now look at what _______has become - A LIAR. It all started out with one simple little lie-look how fast it can grow.

Conclusion:
-The Bible teaches us that God hates lying lips.
-Who cares what God thinks of you?
-The Bible also teaches that God delights in those who are truthful.
-It isn't always easy to be truthful.
-God delights in those who are truthful.
-It highly pleases God when we are truthful
-God gives great joy and happiness to those who are truthful
