Posted by: Buffalo Dream Center

Topic: God’s top ten

Verse: If you love me, you will obey what I command. John 14:15

Props:

Game Supplies (i.e. basketball and net, bean bag toss stuff, board game stuff)
2 pre-planned volunteers

Instructions:

-Now we are going to play a game.
-Pick to pre-planned volunteers.
-Give the volunteers the game supplies and tell them to play a game.
-Do not explain the rules
-There should be a lot of confusion, cheating and unfair play going on.
-When the game is over, congratulate the winner-give them a prize and have the volunteers sit down.

Discussion:

-Who thought that was a good game?
-Who thought is was fair?
-What was wrong with it?
-The problem: There were no rules. So you cannot say that _________ fairly won and that _______fairly lost. Nobody really succeeded at the game
-Games need rules! Why?
i. Rules make the game fair and safe.
ii. Rules help determine the winner.
-Other areas of our life have rules too –Name some
a. School
b. The bus
c. Sports
d. At home
e. The city (traffic laws, government laws)
f. Jobs/Careers

-Rules in life are for our own good and protection.
-If we break the rules there are consequences – detentions, suspensions, penalties in sports, being grounded at home, fines, jail, being fired from a job.

Point:
-God has rules for us to follow
-The Bible says if we truly love Jesus and want to live for Jesus we will follow his rules.
-If we follow God’s rules we will live a long and successful life.
-For the next 10 weeks we are going to talk about GOD’S TOP TEN rules
-A long time ago God gave his people 10 rules to follow.
-God wants us to still follow those rules today

Memory Verse – Measuring How much you love God

-If I wanted to know how tall someone was what would I do?
-Pick a volunteer and “measure” them the wrong way. Continue until the kids tell you the right way to measure someone.
-What are some other things we can measure?
-We can measure our love for God. You can measure my love for God.
-How? By how we follow God’s rules.
-The Bible teaches us that if we love God, we will obey His commands or laws

John 14:15 - “If you love me, you will obey what I command.”

-Have kids repeat, “If I love Jesus then I will to obey Jesus.
-Our love for Jesus is measured by our obedience to Jesus

-Repeat the verse in different voices and in different ways
