Introduction:
Today I thought it would be fun to make something in Kidz Club. So, I thought I would make one of my favorite desserts. Can anyone guess what that is?
I love chocolate, and one of my favorite desserts is brownies. Who likes brownies? Some people think it is difficult to bake. But nowadays with mixes, it is very easy. I have discovered that these brownie mixes -with a secret ingredient taste just a good as making brownies homemade.
Today we are going to follow the directions on this box and make these delicious brownies for me to enjoy later.
Following Directions:
Choose a volunteer to come to the front and pour the brownie mix in the bowl.
Now it is very important that we follow all the directions on the box, so that our brownies turn out yummy.
Next we need to add a little bit of water. Choose a volunteer to come and add the water.
Remember it is important to follow all the directions. If we stopped now would our brownies turn out right?
Choose a volunteer to come to the front and add the oil. This recipe needs a little bit of oil. Make sure you add the right amount of oil. There is a different amount of oil than water.
Remember it is important to follow all the directions, not just some of them, and not just the ones we feel like.
The last ingredient written on the box is eggs, so I need 2 volunteers to come up and crack the eggs in the bowl. Now we are not going to put 1 egg in or 4 eggs in. We are going to put in just what the recipe calls for. We are going to follow all the directions. If you really love brownies, you need to follow all the directions so you brownies turn out right.
Following the directions so carefully on the brownie mix reminds me of something. It reminds me of how we need to follow God's directions.
Does anybody remember what John 14:15 says?
"If you love me, you will obey what I command." (Have the kids repeat the verse)
If we love the taste of brownies we need to follow the recipe exactly.
If we love Jesus we need to obey His directions.
The Secret Ingredient:
Boys and girls, I have a secret ingredient I want to add to my brownies today. I make the best brownies in the whole entire world, and I think it is because of my secret ingredient. Now this ingredient isn't listed on the box. It is a secret.
Can you keep a secret?
My secret ingredient is . . . . CAT FOOD.
I am going to add cat food to the brownies and then they will be ready for you. (Volunteer should protest about adding the cat food).
Just a little bit of cat food won’t ruin the brownies. (yes it will)
Look how much batter is in this bowl. You won't even notice this cat food in there.
Boys and girls – do you agree with me or the volunteer?
Conclusion:
Well, boys and girls I think you are right. I think that little bit of cat food probably ruined the taste of these delicious brownies. Do you want to see if it did?
We can learn an important lesson today - Sin is like the cat food I put in the brownies.
Sin ruins our life.
It only takes a little sin to ruin our life.
A lot of people -even people who have decided to live for Jesus think like this: "I will stay away from the big sins. I won't steal from the bank. I won't kill anyone. I won't break any laws." These people think they are okay because they stay away from the big sins.
These same people may think: "It is no big deal if I didn't obey my mom and clean my room. It's no big deal if I copied the answers for the test off my friend. It's not big deal if I lied just a little tiny bit so I wouldn't get into trouble." They think nobody even notices these little sins.
Boys and girls little sins ruin your life as much as big sins. Just like a little cat food ruined my brownies. It didn't take the whole tin of cat food to ruin the brownies. It just took a little bit.
A little bit of sin will ruin your life.
The GOOD NEWS Jesus died for ALL your sins - BIG AND SMALL. Jesus wants you to decide to live for him. When we decide to live for Jesus, we are deciding to stay away from sin.
When we decide to live for Jesus we are saying Jesus we are going to obey you - We are going to stay away from sin.
