Sin Looks Good, But Tastes Yucky

Topic: God’s top ten
Verse: If you love me you will obey what I command. John 14:15
Props:
4 volunteers
4 pieces of bitter backing chocolate
4 plates to put it one
Instructions:
Have 4 volunteers stand in front of a plate with yummy chocolate on it. Do not tell them it is bitter. When getting the volunteers make sure you pick people who “love” chocolate. On “Go” they have to eat the chocolate as fast as they can. The first person to eat and swallow all of their chocolate is the winner.
Discussion:
Introduction: (Put Gods Top Ten on an Overhead)
-We have been talking about how important it is to obey God’s commands
-This is how we show our love to God
-Review God’s Top Ten with the kids – Have them repeat after you
God’s Top Ten
1.God comes first.
2.Only worship God
3.Keep God’s name holy
4.Keep God’s day holy
5.Honor your mom and dad
6.Do not kill
7.Mommies and daddies must love each other
8.Do not steal
9.Do not lie
10.You must not want what other people have
-Which one do you think is the most important? Which one is next?
-Which one is the hardest to follow for you?
Discussion:
-On the outside this chocolate looks really yummy. It looks like any other chocolate.
-However, this is a special chocolate called “bitter” chocolate.
-This chocolate tastes really yucky.
-Boys and girls, - sin can appear to be really good.
-We see our friends doing things that we know are sins but they are having lots of fun.
-It can make us really want to do the same.
-Just like we all wanted to play this game and eat this chocolate that looked really yummy.
-No matter how good sin looks on the outside. It is still sin.
-It is yucky.
-It makes God sad.
-It causes us to be yucky on the inside.
Conclusion: It our goal is to show God how much we love Him then,
1.We need to obey what He commands the best we can
2.We need to stay away from sin no matter how good it looks
