Bible Story: 1 Kings 17:8-16

A long time ago before Jesus was born, there was a really bad famine in the land. Lots of people were dying because there was not enough to eat and drink. There was a lady name Zarephath. She lived alone with her son. They were very poor. Zarephath was out gathering some wood so she could cook what she thought was her last meal. While she was gathering the wood a friend of hers named Elijah came to her and asked if she would feed him some bread and water. Elijah loved God with all his heart. He was a very bold preacher. There were lots of people who didn’t believe in God who did not like Elijah. Zarephath was a good friend of Elijah’s.

Zarephath explained that she did not have much food but that she would cook what little she had, which was some flour and oil for bread, and give it to Elijah. That is exactly what she did. Zarephath GAVE all she had to feed one of God’s helpers. She knew that met that her and her son would not eat and that they could starve to death.

Guess what happened!! God gave back to her. God refilled the containers she kept her flour in and the container she kept her oil in. For many days after that God kept on refilling those containers. Even though many other people were running out of food and starving God took care of Zarephath and her son.

Conclusion: When we give to God, He will give back to us. He will take care of the needs we have.
