Wisdom To Stay Away From Sin

Posted by: Buffalo Dream Center

Topic: Love God -Hate Sin

Verse: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is Eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Props:

box
1 rat trap
1 stick
1 blindfold

Instructions:

Hold up the box and explain: Inside this box there is a rat trap. It may or may not go off if you stick your finger in there.

Discussion:

-Did you know that you can ask God for wisdom and He will give it to you?
-What is wisdom? – Acting on what you know
-Everyday we learn things. We call that knowledge. Wisdom is acting on or making decision based on what we have learned.
-A person with God’s wisdom inside of them will make the right decisions.
-If something is right should you do it?
-If something is wrong should you do it? If you did that something wrong what would it be? (SIN)
-If you are not sure whether something is right or wrong should you do it?
-Who would like to take their chance at putting their fingers inside this box? (You could have pre-arranged the person you are going to pick.)
-Blindfold the person and have them put their hand straight out.
-Now everybody remember the Bible teaches that a person with God’s wisdom will make the right choices. (Ask the volunteer: Are you sure you want to do this?)
-Announce your fingers are about a foot away, six inches away – keep going straight ahead – they are just one inch away
-Remember that a person with God’s wisdom will make the right choices.
-Now your hands are touching the box. I can let you go any further STOP!!!
-Take the blindfold off and give the volunteer a stick to stick in the box and set the trap off with.
-The trap snaps – See it was set. What would have happened if I had let you stick your fingers in that box? You wouldn’t have any more fingers.
-If you know something is right should you do it?
-If you know something is bad should you do it?
-If you are not sure if something is right or wrong should you do it?

Bible Story: Solomon

Introduction:
Today I want to tell you a story from the Bible about someone who really wanted to live for God, and so He asked for something that would help Him make the right choices.

-Who has ever heard of David? David is the guy who killed Goliath. Eventually He became king.
-David has a son Solomon. After David died Solomon became king.
-One night while Solomon was sleeping, the Lord appeared in a dream to him.
-God said, “Solomon ask for what ever you want and I will give it to you.”
-Solomon could have asked for long life, money, a nice house, that all his enemies be killed.
-After all God said, “Ask me for whatever you want.”
-What would you ask God for if He said that you could ask Him for whatever you want?
-Does anybody know what Solomon asked for?
-Solomon asked God for wisdom.
-You see Solomon was very young and he had just become king. Solomon’s dad wasn’t around to help him. Solomon didn’t know the first thing about being a good king. Solomon wanted to please God more than anything. He asked God to give him wisdom so that he could be a good king who pleased God.
-God was so pleased with Solomon’s request because it wasn’t selfish at all that God said He would give Solomon the things he did not ask for too.
-Not only did God give Solomon wisdom, God also gave Solomon riches, and honor.

Conclusion:
Who here wants to do their best to live for Jesus everyday of their life? In order to live for Jesus we need wisdom. Did you know that just like King Solomon asked for wisdom that you can ask for wisdom too? The Bible says, “If anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who give to all liberally . . .” Remember when we are filled with God’s wisdom we will make the right choices.
