Things That Remind Me Of The Bible

Posted by: Buffalo Dream Center

Topic: God’s Word

Verse: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalms 119:105

Props:

Paper bag with a secret compartment
Pencil
Paper heart
Piece of Ribbon
Birthday candle
Bible

Instructions:

Game:
You need:
2 volunteers
2 blindfolds
2 candles or objects to put in the bag
2 paper bags

First Activity:
Have 2 volunteers come up at a time. You could repeat the race if time. Blindfold the volunteers. Have them turn around. The object is that they have to walk backwards to the paper bag and put the candle in the bag and then walk back to their team. Whoever does it first wins. The important thing is that the candle has to get in the bag.

Second Activity: Now we are going to do the same thing except you get to choose a partner who will help you get to the bag and back.

Take off the blindfolds and clean up from the game.

Discussion:

-In class hold up the bag – who thinks this is an ordinary paper bag – Show that there is nothing in it
-Today we are going to talk a little about the Bible.
-On the outside the Bible looks like an ordinary book just like this paper bag looks kind of ordinary. Actually it might look a little boring to some because there are no pictures. It might seem hard to read for some of you.
-There are lots of exciting stories in the Bible and lessons that can help us live.
-Actually I have some items in my bag that remind me of how helpful and exciting the Bible can be.
-(Pull out ribbon) Just like we can use the ribbon to tie things together- the Bible teaches us how to stay close to God
-(Pull out pencil) What are pencils good for? Writing down things so we remember them – The Bible helps us remember how to live
-(Pull out candle) What is a candle good for? It gives off light – The Bible is like a light for us- It shows us the way through life.
-(Pull out heart) How does this heart remind you about the Bible? The Bible teaches us how Jesus gives us a new heart when we decide to live for Him. The Bible also talks a lot about love.

Discussion:

-Which was easier, walking with or without your partner?
-How is going through life without God’s Word like what we did first?
-How is going through life with God’s Word like walking with your partner?

When we’re walking blindly and we are unsure of what path to take, the trip seems very difficult. When someone guides us we can move smoothly with trust and confidence. God’s Word is a powerful guide to help us through life. When we follow God’s Word we will know just what to do and how to handle situations that come our way.
