Discussion:

Introduction:
-Jesus told a lot of stories when He was alive.
-His stories helped others to understand Gods Word better.
-I am going to tell you one of Jesus stories today using these jars.
-This story is about how different people react to God’s Word.
-Since we have been talking about reading the Bible, I thought it might help you decide what kind of a person you are when it comes to God’s Word

The Parable of The Sower.
-Jesus told a story about a farmer because when Jesus was alive lots of people were farmers.
-This farmer was getting ready to plant his seeds. Jesus compares the seeds to the Word of God. God’s word is like a seed being planted in the ground-it is planted in your brain.
-He said the farmer dropped the seed on four different types of soil. The soil was like four different types of people. Everybody reacts different to God’s Word. Jesus uses this story to show us how different people react to God’s Word.
-Only 1 way is the proper way to react to God’s Word -see if you can choose the right one.
-Here I have 4 baby food jars with some powder in them to represent the 4 people in Jesus story.
-(Take a jar with powder) This jar represents the first person who was not interest in God’s Word at all. (Pour jar 1 into the jar) See there is no reaction.
-(Take a jar with powder) This jar represents the second person. The Bible says their heart was cold towards God. (Pour jar 2 into the jar) See there is no reaction.
-(Take a jar with powder) This jar represents the third person who Jesus was talking about. The third person gets a little excited about God’s Word. Then they get caught up in other things and forget about God’s Word. (Pour jar 3 into the jar)
-(Take a jar with powder) This jar represents the 4 type of person. They have hearts that are open to God. They love God and want to learn more about God. (Pour of jar 4 into the jar.) These people get excited when they hear God’s Word and they use it in their life.
-We should try to be like the 4th person. We should be excited to learn about God’s Word. We should figure out how to apply it to our lives.

The Foundation of our Life should be built on God’s Word.
-Everybody builds their life on something. (Have a small balloon for each one)
-Some on their job.
-Some on their possessions (house, car etc. . .)
-Some on their addictions (drugs, alcohol etc. . .)
-Some on their education
-Look what happens when you build your foundation on these things.
(Put a plank on top of the balloons, and have a volunteer come and try to stand on the plank.)
-You life is very unstable.
-You could lose your job at any minute-(Pop the balloon)
-If you lose your job, you’ll lose your possession because you can’t pay for them.
(Pop balloon)
-If you run out of money you can’t support your addiction, and your addiction could get you in jail or kill you. (Pop balloon)
-What good is your education if you can’t get a good job?
-You life could fall apart at any moment.
-Look what happens when you build your life on God’s Word and God’s principles. (Have bricks with bible verses and principles written on them)
-I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

-God will supply for all my needs.
-Love one another.
-Hide God’s Word in my heart
-Love God with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind.
-Trust God with all your heart.
-Jesus Died on the cross for me-to forgive my sins.
-God has a special plan for my life.
-My steps are ordered by God
-God loves me.
-(Lay the same plank across the bricks and have a volunteer stand on the plank)

Conclusion:
-When your life’s foundation is built on God’s Word. It doesn’t matter what circumstances or situations you face. You will not fall.
-When your life’s foundation is built on other things (finances, jobs, possessions). You will fall when a storm comes along (pop a balloon). It may seem fun for a while but in time your life may fall apart.
