Discussion:

I. God wants His children to know His voice.
A. Children can recognize their parents voices because they hear them over and over again.
1. Any voice that you hear over and over again will soon be easy to recognize.
(Play the cassette tape long enough to sample each voice clip and ask the children to identify each speaker)
2. Because we are Gods children, we ought to know His voice.
B. Unfortunately, most Christians know the voice of the devil.
1. We know the voice of the devil because of how it makes us feel and think.
(Ask questions here and elaborate on the feelings and thoughts that Satan generates)
2. If we know to voice of the devil, shouldn’t we be able to know when God is talking?
C. We can recognize the voice of God by what it makes us feel and think.
1. God is good and does not tempt us with evil. (James 1:17)
2. God did not give us a spirit of fear. (2 Timothy 1:7)

II. God has given us a way to hear His voice all the time.
A. The Bible is not just Gods Book - its Gods Word.
1. If God were to talk to us, He would say something that is written in the Bible.
2. We can hear Gods Word by reading the Book and by saying its verses to ourselves.
B. When a Christian hears Gods Word, he hears it with two sets of ears (Matt 11:15)
(Bring out the plastic ears and put them on one of your pupils)
1. We hear with our natural ears.
2. We hear with our spiritual ears.
C. Since God is our spiritual father; it is our spiritual ear that enables us to recognize His voice.
1. Our spiritual ear learns to recognize Gods voice by what He says not by how it sounds.
2. Our natural ears recognize a voice by how it sounds, not by what it says.

III. We must be careful to steer ourselves in the right direction.
A. The Bible says that our tongues are like the rudders of a ship (James 3:4-5).
1. The rudder of a ship is very small, but it can turn a big ship.
2. The ships rudder is like the steering wheel of a car.
B. When we do not know Gods voice, we must not speak confusion.
(Use the steering wheel to steer yourself into a wreck)
1. When a person speaks confusion with his mouth, his heart and mind become even more confused.
2. Your mouth is able to guide your whole body.
C. We should use our mouths to declare that we know God’s will and that we are not confused.
