Introduction: Being Popular
-What makes someone popular?
-What do you do on the 1st day of school to try and be popular?
-Wear popular clothes
-Hang out with popular kids
-What if we went to school with this? (Hold up an ugly old book bag)
-Would this bag make us popular?
A dirty heart doesn’t make us popular with God.
-This book bag reminds me of our heart before we decide to live for Jesus.
-Sin makes our heart dirty.
-Lying
-Cheating
-Disobeying our parents
-Stealing
-Hatred
-Sin doesn’t make us popular with God.
Jesus became sin so our hearts could be clean.
-The punishment for sin is death.
-Jesus died on the cross and became sin so we didn’t have to be punished.
-If we decide to live for Jesus, He makes our heart look like this.
-(Hold up a brand new backpack)
Jesus paid the price for our sins.
-Have a volunteer come up and put the 4 things you have in order of what they think these things might cost, starting with the least.
-Once they have done it you can turn over the price tags on the items.
-Did you know something else has a price tag (attach price tag to yourself)? Me
-Everybody here has a price tag.
-The Bible says, “You were bought with a price.”
-The price paid for you was more than anybody has ever paid for anything else in the world.
-The price was the life of Jesus.
-Jesus died so that we could have eternal life.
Conclusion: We must decide to follow Jesus.
-Hold up a rattle.
-One of the first toys we give a baby is a rattle.
-Before plastic rattles were made, people often put rice in a small container for babies to shake.
-A rattle is called a rattle because it has something inside that rattles.
-It doesn’t become a rattle because it is kept with other rattles.
-You can make a rattle by taping little piece of plastic to the outside of this toy.
-When we decide to live for Jesus, Jesus comes to live in our heart.
-You cannot become a Christian by going to church.
-You cannot become a Christian by doing good deeds.
-You become a Christian when you decide you are going to live for Jesus.
-A rattle is a rattle because of what is inside of it.
-A Christian is a Christian because of what is on the inside of their heart.
