Discussion:

a. Introduction:
-Why do we have rules in our schools?
-Why do we have rules in our homes?
-Why do we have rules in our city, state, and country?
-God gave rules for Christians to live by.
-Following God’s rules protect us
-Following God’s rules helps us lead a successful live
-Following God’s rules helps us lead a peaceful live
-Following God’s rules helps us lead a happy life
-The Bible says that is we truly love God then we will want to obey His Word (commands, rules).
-Let’s talk about why we should obey God’s Word.

B. The Word of God keeps us pure.
-What does pure mean?
-To be without sin
(Hold up a white, clean piece of paper, verse a piece of dirty paper with pencil marks all over it)
-I thought I might get thirsty so I brought along a glass of milk. Nothing beats an ice-cold glass of milk. (Take a sip)
-Yuck! This milk is warm and a little sour.
-I couldn’t very well bring my whole refrigerator. So how else was I to keep the milk warm?
-Hold up the thermos. This thermos would have kept my milk cold.
-Explain how a thermos works – inside lining keeps in the heat or cold-keeps food fresh.
-Without a thermos it would be impossible to keep food fresh.
-There are many times when we are like this sour glass of milk. We are not at our best.
-We pick fights with others.
-We disobey the leaders and our parents.
-We take something that doesn’t belong to us
-Now if we took a whole bunch of Christians with us everywhere went, we maybe would make better decision and behave better. However, just like you can’t carry around a refrigerator, you can’t take the whole church with you to school, to dinner, to do your homework.
-God gave us His Words-the Bible.
-If we read the Bible everyday, and decide to follow the Bible, it will be possible for us to keep our lives pure and to honor God.

The Word of God is . . .. (Have a box with a large picture of the bible on the front of it)
-For some people the Bible is a book of fairy tales and old memories. (Hold up fairy tale book) These people don’t live by the Bible nor do they follow God.
-When we read the Bible we find out why it is s important to us.
-The Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (lamp/flashlight)
-The Bible gives us direction for our life.
-The Word is like honey and milk. (Milk and honey)
-God’s Word is our spiritual food.
-When we read God’s Word we get become a stronger Christians, just like when we eat food we grow physically.
-The Word is like a sword. (Play sword)
-It divides right from wrong.
-It shows us what is God’s will and what isn’t
-The Word is like a hammer. (Hammer)
-It breaks/smashes a hard heart
-The Word is like fire. (Match/lighter)
-It burns sin out of our life
-The Word is like water. (Bottle of water)
-The Bible washes our mind of bad thoughts and puts good thoughts in our mind.
-Cleans our minds
-The Word is like a seed. (Seeds)
-It gets planted in our hearts.
-The Word is like shoes. (Shoes)
-We need to be ready to share God’s Word everywhere we go.
(* All of the above are found in the Bible)

c. Conclusion: You’ve God to read your Bible everyday.
-Who likes candy?
-I have this delicious box of candy what am I going to do with it?
-Take it home and put it on a shelf
-Put it out where everybody can look and it and admire what a nice box of candy it is.
-What should I do with it? (Open it) How?
-Take off the paper; open the box and say, “Now I’ll leave this box of open candy here so everybody how good it looks.
-What else should I do with it? (Eat it)
-Some people treat their Bible the way I wanted to treat this candy.
-They put it on a shelf or on a table for everyone to see, but never open it.
-Some people might even open their Bible to put something in it, but never read it.
-Just like you eat candy we need to eat God’s Word. In other words we need to read our Bibles and get it in our hearts and mind. It will make us strong.
