Discussion:

-Today is a very special day. Does anybody know what is so special about today?
-What special things do you do on Easter?
-I brought this jar to church today because it reminds me of Easter.
-Why do you think this jar reminds me of Easter?
-Is there anything special about this jar?
-There is one thing – it is empty. Who thinks an empty jar is exciting?
-Who would have been excited if this jar was full of candy for a free draw?
-Who would have been excited if this jar was full of pennies and coins?
-Usually we get excited about full things. At home we might get excited when the fridge is full of food or the candy jar is full.
-On Easter we are excited because something was empty along time ago. Does anybody know what that is?
-Jesus’ tomb.
-Who can tell me the main reason we celebrate Easter?
-Jesus died on a cross. He was buried in a tomb (like a big cave). When his friends went to the tomb on Easter morning what did they find? An empty tomb.
-Why were they so excited about the empty tomb?
-Jesus rose from the grave.
-It meant that Jesus was alive forever!

Object Lesson: Don’t Be Afraid of Death
-I want to talk to you about why Easter is so important to us.
-Easter is not just another Bible Story or holiday. It really has to do with our life.
-First of all, I brought something else hear today. I put it in a bag. I wanted to bring it out at just the right time because it might be kind of scary to you.
-Who wants to stick their hand in this bag and see what I brought?
-I need a brave volunteer. Somebody who is not afraid of losing his or her finger. Somebody who is not afraid of blood.
-Play around with it a bit get the volunteer up at the front-change your mind- get another volunteer-make the bag move etc. . .
-I think I will just reach in and show you myself. I don’t want anything to happen to any of you.
-Pull out a fake snake. Pretend to scare some kids with it.
-Who was afraid of what was in the bag at first?
-Who is afraid of my snake now?
-This snake reminds me of how a lot of people feel about dying.
-The thought of dying can be kind of scary and sad to all of us.
-It is a very important part of Easter.
-We talked earlier about the empty tomb and how Jesus rose was alive.
-What was in the tomb before it was empty?
-Jesus
-A very important part of Easter is the part when Jesus died for us.
-We must always remember what Jesus went through for us.
-He was arrested.
-He was called names
-He was beaten and whipped
-He had a crown of thorns put on his head
-He was hung on a cross – one of the worst ways to die – slow and painful
-Jesus went through all that for us, our sins could be forgiven
-When he was finally dead they wrapped Him up and put Him in the tomb.
-Then the exciting part of Easter happen – Jesus rose again.

-Another part of the good news is that by Jesus dying and then raising from the dead is that Jesus took away the scary part of death for us.
-When we decide to live for Jesus we can know that even when it comes time for us to die that we really will rise again.
-When we decide to live for Jesus, we are promised that when our life on earth is done that we will have a new life in heaven.
-Not everybody will have a new life in heaven only those who decided to live for Jesus on earth.
-In heaven, there is no sickness, no pain, and no sadness.

Conclusion: It is important for us to remember and thank Jesus everyday for what He did for us. It is important that we decide to live for Jesus so we can have all the promises that God has for us.
